What would you do?
If someone offered you a pill and said "You will lose you memory of bad things that happened to you, you will forget about relationships and people that hurt you, and you will get to start a new life somewhere else without those memories" would you take that pill?
No.
yes
Give me two please!~ @zeetee17
No, I wouldn't.
This reminds me of the historical/fantasy Chinese Dramas that I watch. They always have this body of water where when someone goes into it/or drink it, they forget everything and start a new life. And it's usually the female lead that's heartbroken and couldn't endure the pain, that they will choose this route. But then, after sometime, they are once again drawn to liking the same person, and end up remembering their "past" life.
@zeetee17
@Jaeteuk hey did u mean goblin? That's Korean
No, there are many fantasy dramas from China that have the same idea. Of course, Goblin is another example.
@joyfulMoment2092
@Jaeteuk Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind movie is the same concept.
I see, I'm not quite into movies much though.
@Coconut8001
@Jaeteuk yes, because if you can't change the things on your behavior that affect the way you interact with the world, you surely will repeat the same mistakes, so... maybe is better remember the mistakes (traumatic events) in your life to learn about them how to manage it if you meet them in the future.
Pd. I love Bl chinesse novels, I love a taoist character.
Good or bad things that happen in life is normal. That's what life is all about, mistakes and failures are lessons that we can learn from. To forget the bad is almost like trying to escape from reality, and you'll just end up in the same spot if it happens again.
I used to be into watching Kdramas, but I had been into Chinese Historical dramas since Covid. They are easier to access online than Kdramas.
@Cor4
What about people who have been raped and abused? People always seem to focus on normal life issues like break ups or failures, but what about people who have been through serious trauma? Do you really fault them for wanting to escape that reality?
@zeetee17 This is a great question to think about!
At first glance, I would say yes....
But, thinking about it a little more, I would have to ultimately go with No.
My reasoning? All of the bad/hurtful/poor experiences teach us important lessons in life, and allow us to learn from them, and hopefully not make the same mistakes in the future. So, I would go with no thanks.
@zeetee17
Interesting idea but no, because then what would stop me from making the same mistakes again and again? I like to think that the tough stuff makes us...not stronger...but more open to empathy and understanding for other people going through the same. Or I hope so anyway!
@victoriousblue17 nice answer. I agree!
@victoriousblue17
i agree as well
@victoriousblue17 good point, maybe I would choose to forget only the last trauma.
@zeetee17
nope. Even though it sounds promising.
I think the answer will strongly depend on which stage of fried the person is currently going through and the reason of the break up.
For me, possibly no. But I'm confused.
@zeetee17
nope cz then ill lose all the lessons ive learnt from those experiences which are priceless.
@zeetee17
No
