I think I am emotionally shut off.

I don’t know if that is a real thing or if this is even the right community thread to put this in. (If there is a right or wrong.) I just joined 7 cups today so bear with me. I don’t really register the same feelings as the people around me. I see them. And I know what they are. But I don’t really understand them. I’m not a sociopath or anything; I think. I used to really enjoy being just neutral all the time. I counted it as an advantage. But it is really starting to take a toll on my relationship with my wife. Is there anyone out here who was like me and found the switch to flip? I’ve never really talked to anyone before. But I do want to be a better more feeling person. Or at least be able to commiserate more.

Thank you for sharing , sometimes we feel ( or dont feel ) things and we dont understand why , feeling more or less is common with most of us and probably dont mean that we have a mental issue , i believe you are pretty normal , please feel free reach out to listeners for support anytime .

I think it depends if you have changed or always been that way

I feel the same way sometimes. Maybe we are both somewhat in the autism or aspergers spectrum. Who knows. I am perfectly fine with being around the elderly and dying, I’ve dressed my daughter to be buried as well as a friend’s mother. I’m not afraid of it and I feel it’s sacred and I don’t cry much around those things unless there is a deep deep connection. I didn’t mind that my parents couldn’t be at my wedding. Who is ok with something like that?! Sometimes I feel emotionless. I guess we are all just unique and it doesn’t necessarily mean there’s anything wrong with us. BUT gaining understanding and empathy is good to do to grow.
