It should have been me

Back in August I got Covid and quarantined at my mother's house to protect my special needs son. We did everything right and stayed away from each other until I was hospitalized..when I was released my mother was admitted with covid..she spent 12 days on the ventilator before dying .and everyday I wake up knowing it's my fault..and that it should have been me that died instead of her. I don't know how to keep waking up with this anymore.

I am so sorry you lost your mom. But I don't think she would ever have wanted it to have been you. You mentioned your special needs son and he needs you and I am sure your mom is really proud of the amazing mother that you are.

Try to continue to make her proud by living the best life you possibly can ❤️

Never blame yourself. COVID has ripped through everyone's lives this year. Your mum would not want you to feel like this. If you need a chat feel free to comment and I will try to help.

I just wanted to say I am so sorry, I felt the pain reading this so didn't just want to scroll by. It's an impossible and incredibly sad situation caused by Covid, your Mother obviously also wanted to protect her grandson by having you quarantine there so please just know she will have known the risk but obviously so wanted to protect him and beteen the both of you, you did just that and it may well have saved your sons life which i'm sure she absolutely would have wanted and would be telling you now. Sending you so much love xxx

@almostrooted that’s heartbreaking so sorry but unfortunately this isn’t your fault we are dealing with something that out of our hands your mum wouldn’t want you to blame your self I understand why you feel that way. I have covid now my mum ask me to stay with her so she could look after me only reason I didn’t go to her spare room was because I couldn’t drive. Parents want to protect our kids like you did. Your mum wouldn’t want you blaming yourself x

Your mum made the decision knowing the risks and she did it to protect your son, there is no way she would have wanted it to be you or him above her. With the prevalence of covid globally it is likely we will all catch it at some stage, you can't even be sure she caught it from you and not someone else. Correlation does not mean causation. I'm terribly sorry for your loss, losing a parent is one of the hardest things someone can go through emotionally, please don't put the extra pressure on yourself. I expect this is what your mum would tell you as well.
