I'm having trouble emotionally I know and just feeling altogether numb. Like I know I should care about work and my family and religion. But it's just hard. The only thing I'm feeling is numb

You are not alone. I am 42 and feel the same. I feel like I’ve worked hard for many years to set up my kids for success and they just hate me and my religion. I try to support them in choosing their own path but they love the internet and video games more than family and other things. It makes me so depressed.

I know that feeling all too well ...

Sometimes it can be events in your life that triggered it, like when you say you are going through a difficult time with your emotions, is it due to you feeling numb or something else that might have happened? Talking or even just writing out what has happened recently in your life, especially things that may have caused you stress or anxiety, may just help the sensation to pass and/or at least help you understand the source of the sensation.

I've found that some medication can cause a sensation of emotional detachment initially, but most of the time the severity of side effects either become less or disappear alltogether with time. So if you have recently been prescribed new medication, giving it some time to work, often alleviates some of the initial sensations.

Most of the time for me though, it is just something I have had to accept as part of a condition that I have.

Which ever it is though, if it persists for too long and starts to severely affect your work, health or relationships, you may want to consider seeing your home doctor and/or prescribing physician as they may be able to help you either get over the "crest" of what may be causing you distress in life, or help adjust any medication you are on.

These sensations are never welcome so I hope it passes soon and that it is but a little speed bump in the road.

It’s strange how the things we work “for”, providing for our families, trying to maintain good relationships with those around us, can sometimes neglect one of the most important parts of the whole process…the person doing all of that. I do not know individual situations you are facing but if the person who faces them has taken some time to try and better themselves, even in the smallest of degrees on a consistent basis, it can help make those struggles a little easier to take on. Outside of the uncontrolled chaos going on around you…what can you control in your immediate life? What are you eating? What are you watching/listening to/scrolling through throughout the day? What’s your activity level? Small changes in those day to day activities can add up to noticeable gains. Small victories, many times Talking to a professional can work wonders, don’t feel you need to go it alone.
