Skype a friend or family member (even for a few minutes) or call them or go visit them. Those that have the smart phones there is also a feature you can use on there to see the person that you are talking to.
I am calling my mom today.

@DanaMH I called my mom today and we talked about the weather and what was happening in the neighborhood. She is at an age that I appreciate every conversation.

That is really good to hear. I know my mom is the same way and I hope you enjoy every conversation like I do.
@DanaMH I do it is really nice when we can laugh together. There is something about laughter that is very uplifting. It lightens the seriousness of life.

@DanaMH I call my mom almost every day. She has little else besides the television for companionship and my sister calls too. Having things lined up as hobbies sounds so important so when we get old we are not isolated and disconnected.

That is very true. One thing that my mom did and in-laws are starting to think about also since they can't drive anymore is retirement center living. This way there are things to do and they also have a bus to take them to like the bank or shopping or other planned activities so they don't feel like they are stuck at home waiting for a friend or loved one to take them some where. My mom is really enjoying where she is and they are playing games every day and she is starting to make friends that she can talk to and doesn't have to cook anymore and eats more healhly this way also.
@DanaMH glad your mom is open to that. It certainly sounds nice but mom wants to live in her house - no negotiation.

Totally get that because my dad was the same way.
I ended up FaceTiming my sister-in-law who needed help choosing a wood floor. 
@Zengrl and what floor did you choose? There are so many new products out there.

@Zengrli dont know how old your SIL is, but I went with luxury vinyl tile. No one knows its not hard wood! Easy to clean no special instructions. Steam clean and done. Trying to make my house as maintenance free as possible.
I'm going to call my mom today.

@Gettingby40 yes I agree. I am always ready to laugh in appropriate situations. It helps me get grounded.
