@DanaMH 3 coping skills

One person calls it becoming like a rock when anger rises up - total non reaction. Then as the feeling passes returning to your regular awareness.

Something simple, take a deep belly breath and let it out. That gives me a momentary sense of calm.

Exercise or stretch or do energy work like Tai Chi to make the body more supple. When the body is flexible the mind is calm.

@soulsings

Those are great coping skills. I really like the exercise part and if you do something fun like I do square dancing the time goes by really fast also.

1) Meditation. It helps improve my concentration.

2) Pop pilates. Its not rigorous like most other physical activities but it helps my body and mind :)

3) My psychologist taught me to treat the negative thoughts constantly swirling inside my head as stingless bees, that theyre just noise and cant hurt me. It usually works, Ill acknowledge them and am able to push them aside but I only find this difficult when meeting someone new, especially if I were to bump into my crush or go on a date πŸ˜…πŸ˜© But otherwise yea, it usually works πŸ˜‚

@DanaMH Id describe it as an upbeat version of pilates created by Cassey Ho :) Its a equipment-free mat based workout thats choreographed to pop music. Theres an app for it, do search for Blogilates by the creator or you can look it up on Youtube, too. It totally makes your body look long and lean πŸ‘πŸ»

1) Deep Breaths. I usually breath in to a count of 5 then out to a count of five.

2) If possible get away from the stressor. I'm suseptible to croweded, noisey areas, so I leave or avoid them whenever possible.

3) Practic e Mindfulness - I pretend I'm standing beside myself and just observing the situation

@MissPen

Those are great coping skills. I agree observing the situation that we are in and taking in our surroundings is very important.

Due to Constant and Regular meditation, my ability to tolerate stressors has increased dramatically. I still find that i need to:

1) get sufficient sleep and rest; if my sleep is disturbed (by unexpected noises or scheduling changes) i need to Nap. also i need to rest my eyes when i've been on the computer too long.

2) keep my body stoked on fuel and oxygen. i need to eat well and often, in small quantities of good food (avoiding 'junk' foods with sugar), drink lots of water; and remember to check my oxygen levels, and use the supplemental oxygen if i get tired.

3) give my mind some free time from focusing on 'chores' or 'tasks', like housekeeping or chatting; i like to play mindless games such as Bejeweled, watch my virtual aquarium, and meditate using the binaural beats to help me concentrate fully.

@GustyOne4U

I agree sleep and rest are very important and taking naps is a really good idea. My therapist was just telling me that today it is ok to lay down and take a nap when need. Resting your eyes is very important and steping away and taking breaks through out the day from the computer also. Eating healthy is good because it also helps with our moods also.

I like the Counting backwards part. I have been having a lot of folks lately count from 100 by 3's backwards and it has been helping them.

I can see that Dana, focussing on the numbers even if I got to do it over and over again really helps me too

Hi @DanaMH,

Thanks for this!

Three coping skills that have made a HUGE impact on my life that I continue to practice DAILY:

1. HEARTMATH (Heart/Mind Coherance): Helps reduce stress, anxiety, & calms everything down so you can think better in crises.

2. NVC (Conscious Communication): Teaches empathy/compassion in relationships - especially with oneself. Provides useful processes for noticing emotional triggers by learning how to make observations instead of judgements, identifying the feeling(s) that come up because of the trigger, uncovering the CORE need/value that triggers the feeling(s), & learning how to make requests instead of demands that communicate our precious, unmet needs, in a non-blaming, non-judgemental way, so that others can really hear & understand our true nature.

3. WIN HOFF METHOD (Breathing & Cold Therapy): SO MANY benefits! Most notably, assists with mind over matter, improved immune/gut/serotonin function - therefore, better moods, happier, calmer, more energy.

Three ideas I'd like to start for coping skills:

1. ASKING FOR HELP: I have a hard time asking for / receiving HELP when I need it: I am looking for a listener currently as a support buddy but also someone who's an "iron fist in a velvet glove", ie: Knows how to draw someone out, using empathy & compassion & tough love when needed.

2. THE NARCISSIST/EMPATH RELATIONSHIP DYNAMIC: I've just discovered that a lot of my anxieties stem from a Narcissistic (my mother) / Empath (me) relationship. This new discovery is what made me seek out online support groups & how I found 7Cups. : ) I'd like to connect with others that have a similar relationship - not to share 'victim' stories but what we are doing / coping skills we're using to overcome the effects of this type of relationship dynamic.

3. PROCRASTINATION: I'm watching a lot of Abraham/Hicks videos on this right now, as it's one of 'coping' strategies I'd like to understand the root of & alchemize into action to create more forward movement.

@LumenEssense

I like your coping skills, I have never heard of them before so these are great resources for folks and glad to hear that they have made a huge impact to help you. Asking for help and finding the right listener that helps is very important. Coping' strategies are very important and some great coping skills are listed here. If you would ever like to chat we can.

Those are all great coping skills. Hope your normal return works out for you. Maybe when you travel you can also do meditation on the phone and walk or something.
