Divorce after 35+ years.
Oh my! Even the title itself feels surreal.
How is it possible that two people who spent the biggest time of their life side-by-side split, all of a sudden?
That's... what I hear all of these days since we decided to get a divorce after, almost, 37 years of being together. I certainly wish that everyone viewed us as every other couple and not put our feelings under the rug, just because we are together for so long.
Do you believe that it's worth taking into account what others say? Maybe we are wrong and taking fast decisions? I don't know.
Time will tell.

There are so many more couples just like you.... me included ........
NO i think if a couple has issues in the first 10 maybe listen to others do not act rashly but after as long as you have been together......
we have made sacrifices / maybe did counseling ...we have generally worked on this tried to save whatever was left but in many cases nothing is left.... no kids to stay together for ......
often nothing but mixed finances keeping us tethered .......... we only have so much time ....... and putting on a smile for family photos pretending and being lonely in the same house with a person who no longer resembles who you once loved........... I am now in the firm belief that is no way to live our "golden Years"

So sorry to hear you're going through this. I think you really just have to make the decisions that feel right for you. Other people don't live your experience, so while they may have their own thoughts and opinions, only you get to say what is right for you.
I divorced after 17 years and heard many friends and family say things like "but you always seemed so happy..." And yes, maybe on the surface it all looks shiny and polished, but there is a lot more deeply involved than what you see on the surface.
Certainly divorce was not in the plans when you first got married, and yes, it's a tough road to travel, but no, you are not alone in that journey. I got to spend a lot of time re-discovering myself and there are some very real benefits to that.
Good luck to you in your own personal journey. ❤️

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your time and kindness.
I m truth-telling now in my 32 year old marriage. My husband won’t engage with the discussion so I’m lonely even in the leaving. He acts like everything is fine so that’s a bit crazy-making. Better late than never to take care of ourselves 💗💗

Cheers to that!
