Over 50 and Depressed? This technique will help immediately, MUST READ.
I hope this letter finds you well, but if it doesn't, I want you to know that I understand your over 50 pain. As someone who has experienced sadness and depression, I know how hard it can be to find comfort and support. That's why I wanted to share with you a personal method of self-care that has brought me tremendous healing and fulfillment.
I spend time visiting nursing homes, where many patients have no one to talk to. They're often forgotten by family and friends, left to feel lonely and isolated. But for me, spending time with these individuals has been incredibly rewarding. I sit with them, hold their hand, and listen to their stories. Sometimes we talk about their lives, their joys, and their regrets. Other times, we just sit in silence together.
I know it may sound like a small gesture, but it has made a world of difference to these patients. They often look forward to my visits, and it's not uncommon for them to express their gratitude and appreciation. Even if I only visit a few times, I can see a shift in their demeanor from sadness to appreciation. I know that I am making a difference in their lives, and that brings me a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
I also want to emphasize that this method of self-care isn't just for me. It's something that anyone can do, regardless of struggles. It doesn't require any special training or expertise; all it takes is a willingness to show up and be present with another person. I encourage you to try it as soon as you can. Not only will you be helping others, but you may find that it brings you a sense of peace and purpose as well. This is Self-Care 101.
In closing, I want you to know that I empathize with your pain and struggle. But I also believe that there is hope and healing to be found, even in the darkest of times. If you ever need someone to talk to on 7Cups know that I am here for you. Now reach out and watch them glow.

Thank you for this post. It's heartbreaking to hear how lonely people in nursing homes are but sadly there is not always someone to take care of them and give them some comfort. You're a kind person for making a difference in their lives, and also helping yourself in return. Kindness always helps - not only the person receiving it but also the one giving it. I have a similar experience here, it makes me feel better every time I hear or feel that I helped someone or just gave them some comfort.

You do this for me, every time we converse together. Thank you so much! By the way...I am trying to keep up with you. I have a monkey on my roof! Not a native species here...just one of the kids toys. He is going to be there awhile as I cannot climb to get him down.
@adaptableOcean4193
I'm very glad if I can help in any way, it makes me feel good too!
Be cautious of the monkey! He might call others and then you have a toy monkey family on the roof 😃

i just love this sooo sooo much! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
It is a blessing to visit & add sparkle ✨✨✨✨✨to their days and yours. You are a great soul and so giving the gift you provide.
My momma is in personal care home and I enjoy my visits with her and others who fill her life with such great friendships. My time there is precious.
Sometimes when we extend ourselves we get a lot back in return.😎😎
This is a great idea, but being depressed myself now, how do you find energy to figure out where to go, talk to whom, and how to connect while you're struggling with work and personal life?
This is a better solution to lonely rather than depressed me think.
@Justmeforyou
That's wonderful Justmeforyou!
What a coincidence, it's exactly what I was wondering few days ago, how fulfilling it'd be to visit nursing homes, a moment of genuine love for others (it's always fulfilling itself). Unfortunately in my country that's not possible, unless you have a relative there, there's no free access for people 😔
Thanks for sharing
That’s very nice!
@Justmeforyou
It is great that you have found something that gives you some purpose in life.
Overcoming the two obstacles for this is beyond me. First it takes time which i am always short of, assuming i can find a place to do it. The second obstacle is overcoming the awkwardness of sitting around with a stranger and having nothing to speak about.
@Gettingbettertoday
I can't help with the time crunch, but I can tell you how to talk with a stranger. Every human you meet will have a surprising story to tell you if you ask enough questions. They lead to a question that will surprise you and usually them as well. Especially with older people a good one is "What was it like when you were growing up"? Others are "What is the most amazing thing you have ever seen, or experienced, or best invention in your time?" Most people just appreciate that you want to give them your time.
