Self Esteem: What is it and how do we find it?

In different periods of my life much of what I struggled with was concern over what other people thought of me and what I thought about others. But nne of these results proved satisfactory. Basing who I am on opinions just leaves me feeling empty.

So I started to take an assessment of who I am and what talents I have and how I can express them. I guess it really takes self acceptance to start the process. When I stopped fighting myself then it was possible to get to know me as I am. When I stopped judging my talents (I can't do that!) then I found I had more possibilities than I ever had imagined were open to me in music, writing, and relating to other people.

How do you feel about yourself?

I feel cursed. That I had an equal chance with a good education to have a good career and a happy life.
Except that as my Dr said 'Mental illness and child abuse has ripped your life apart.'

What kinds of things do you do to help you feel good about yourself?

I know that I am a good person with a lot to offer.
It's just that nobody has the patience to realize it.

@Positron2

Posi, you have/had it tough but it did not stop you to try moving on and that alone already makes you a great "warrior".

Often people are so busy with themselves that they do not see the beauty and good qualities (like you have) in others. I believe lots of people here know how beautiful you are - I can feel it smileyheart

yes How do you feel about yourself?

I am not pleased with my station in life at this time, however, I am working hard to change that.

yesWhat kinds of things do you do to help you feel good about yourself?

When I need to feel better about myself I recount all of the positive things that I have to offer and have offered to the people in my life-circle. I am patient, empathetic, and have a great sense of humor. People are usually happier when we are together. When I think of those things I feel just a little better about myself.

@soulsings

This is really an important topic so thank you a lot for your post.

yes How do you feel about yourself? For some time now I feel good about myself, something changed. I believe that an event some time ago helped me to find true gratitude, encouraged me to love myself more, be gentler with myself.

yesWhat kinds of things do you do to help you feel good about yourself? I try new tasks, if necessary, ask profis how they do it, usually when finishing a task I am very proud of myself. I choose tasks where the possibility of a good outcome are high, positive outcome means also if I cannot complete but need some help, I still started it. Apart from that self-care like massage, taking care of the body.
