That is a good goal since we do learn lots of things from others and from their experience.

I don't often compare myself to others, but I'm not in that mid frame of competing with myself either. I'm pretty much trying to do the best i can with what i have.

That is great because that is all anyone can ask us for is to do our best.

I don't conciencely compare myself to others, but I think I do that at times. I work at a college, and do not have a degree. There are so many people that have better educations than me that it would be hard not to compare myself with them. Fortuately, I am able to manage my work and my school relationships well, and do not compare myself often. I mostly feel pretty good about who I am and what I do, and so do most of the people I work with.

That is great to hear. A lot of folks don't have a degree. It is amazing how important it is now to get a lot of jobs and advance unlike in the past it wasn't a big thing to get a job.

@DanaMH

Dana I used to compare myself a lot to others but learned in the last years that it does not make sense. If other people can do something or are in a certain way I admire, that does not mean I have to be able to do that too. I focus on what I can do and how I can be, pull up the good things I did in life. I might, however, compare myself to the person I was years before and acknowledge how I moved on.

It is very important to know that every person is different and we can only do what we can also. To focus on those things. We can learn new things also for our knowledge and ask others for help. An example: I had no clue how to do Google forms and just kept on asking people questions and now I know how and have been teaching others. Learning how we have moved on and acknowledge our strengths is very important. We live in a world they are always inventing something like the computer and phones and we are learning the different software to make them work and teaching others also.

@DanaMH

Dana, I agree, the world is constantly moving on and we have to try to keep up with the most important stuff. It's good to have people around whom we can ask if we get lost.

I agree since my son is using YouTube to install sound barrier in his car right this minute. I am so clueless to car stuff.

@DanaMH Yes I find myself comparing me to others. Then I stop and ask why. The answer is usually because I'm frustrated that I can't physically do what others are doing. So I change my mindset to comparing me today with me a year ago and that has a much more positive outcome.

That is a great idea to do that and how much you have over come and grown in your knowledge and coping skills also.

Yes, although way less than I used to. I found this was something that was especially hard with being sick - I look a people who are mostly healthy and their lifesytles and what they are capable of doing and how I fall short in those comparisons.

It was actually really hard to get out of the habit of doing this but I did put in a fair bit of effort and it is way less of an issue. I find it still creeps in at times, especially when things are more directly obvious to compare, like doing an activity alongside other people.

Of course, some comparisons are needed too. Diagnostics is based hugely on what's a norm and comparing and comparing one person's info to a population. I think there are so many things where it's just natural to compare and we don't even realize what we're doing.

I do think I need to continue to recognize when I am comparing myself to others, especially when it's unfair and then reframe aspects of that.

Glad to hear that it is less then you used to and that you are continuing to recognize when you are comparing yourself to others when things are unfair and then reframing aspects of the situation. I agree being sick has a lot of disadvantages that we can't do things that we would like to do and it is really hard that we can't. Diagnostics is hard on doctors when they have patients that don't fit their text book norm and finding the correct team of doctors that are willing to put in the time to research and find out how to help is extremely rare and hard to do sometimes.
