What is one of the most important lessons you've learned in your life?

I can't trust everyone.  They're not all acting in my best interest.  I have to be careful about what I say to people.  I'd like to share my story with as many people as possible, to increase understanding of child sexual abuse, and that it does happen to boys, and to help people see the effects of the abuse.  Not everyone wants to hear about it.  Some accused me of trying to get people to feel sorry for me.  Some just wouldn't listen and won't talk to me anymore.  Some could take what I told them and use it against me.  It's hard to know which people I can trust.

How did it help you in the future?

I will be more wary in the future when it comes to opening up.  It could save me a lot of future pain.

Thes lesson I learned is somewhat similar to WharfRat's...the only difference is mine isn't related to child abuse specifically. Since going through it, I've definitely learned to watch people more consciously. It really comes down to actions...anyone can say anything about him/herself. Slinging 🐂💩 is easy. Words conceal as much as communicate; one can always lie by omission. It is through actions that people reveal themselves as time passes.

There are good people out there but the truly virtuous ones are few & far between. Evil ones exist, monsters in human form. Today they're called "sociopaths" or labelled with some acronym out of the DSM-5, however their nature is the same. Most people aren't deliberately evil, but they are usually selfish. For most of humanity, when it comes down to a choice between maintaining honor & getting their next meal, they'll pick the meal every time....which is why "honor" is an obsolete word.
