@DanaMH
Good morning! =) I found this, btw. Still learning to navigate, what everything means and where it goes. :/ There is so much here! I love it.
I had some ideas on what would be interesting to me, please forgive me if it's here and I just haven't found it yet. I have seen this covered elsewhere, outside of the 50+ forum, an accountibility buddy system for this end of the age spectrum only. Not to be exclusive but I do know for purposes of friendly 'how you doing' check ins I am more comfortable doing that with someone in my age range, that has had some of the same life experiences and challenges.
Also, at my age I tend to lean towards less strenuous low impact exercises. A very thoughtful poster mentioned this weekend in the Health forum that the type of exercise that interests them most is the one that will benefit in playing with pets on the floor and picking up a young one. Me too. I am interested in the physical activities that will lend itself to just being able to keep moving, stay reasonably fit and prevent injury. Perhaps a physical fitness section with suggestions, tips and personal experience/success stories.
I also thought that outside of any accountibility aspect, just a buddy system or group system to check in and say, "Hey!" It's nice to get a message from a friend, to have someone think of you and reach out to see how you are doing but without the pressure of, 'Did you do those sit ups you said you were going to?'. It's uncomfortable if you haven't done what you said but still would like to just chat for a bit. I think it would be nice if there were groups of around 5 people so, in case one or two people decide to go in a different direction no one gets left hanging. I would imagine the groups would evolve.
I am IN LOVE with Self Care right now, BIG TIME. I am getting back in to that swing and would love to know what is working for everyone else. Tips, hacks, something new that was just learned, products, methods, etc. Today I am watching season 2 of Queer Eye for the Straight Guy and I love it as much as I loved season 1. It's all about loving self care and I think it is remarkable. My own self care dropped off there for a bit and to start taking care of myself again in that way is doing so much for my mood, self esteem, the quality of everything really. Self care divides itself into so many different topics, too.
Another thing I thought of was a community bulletin board where different questions could be posted or perhaps someone looking for a specific type of buddy or buddies to find people that have similiar interests and hobbies or post a random question, 'What are good low calorie sugar craving hacks?' (Yes, I would really like to know some!)
Anyway, just some random ideas. Have a nice Sunday, All. =)
@Firefly2021
Hi, and welcome to 7cups and the Sub-community. First thanks for all the great ideas. If you can't find something in this Sub-community the 35+ Sub-community has a lot of items in it also that might be of interest.
You can find the Motivational - Accountability partner forum for 35+ here and if @soulsings is interested in creating one here it could be an idea which I will let them maybe PM me and see how it is working. I do like the idea of more than 2 people like a group of 5 or a category something like you suggested since I know several groups have the Buddy system or the Motivational - Accountability partner forums and only a few last. Have more in the group would help a lot and the small group can brainstorm more to help each other also. If it is some topic that everyone could benefit from there is a Q&A and Discussions section and anyone can create a new forum page or there is the different sections also depending on the topic. If you don't know where something should be you can ask it in that section and if needed @soulsings or myself as a Forum Mentor can move it to the appropriate location and can let you know the new location we move it to.
There is a forum page called What are you doing to keep yourself physically fit and healthy? That you can respond to about exercises. Not sure if @soulsings would like to create a new section for physical fitness.
There are 2 great forum sections to look at for self-care the 50+ here and the 35+ here. It is great that it is helping your mood and self-esteem. For the hobbies you can post something in the Enjoying Life forum section for 50+. In 35+ we have a Creative Projects section, a Nerd Zone, for those that like cooking we have the Recipe exchange and last but not least the Pet Cuddle Corner.
In 35+ we also have a forum page Welcome to the 35+ Sub-Community that has a lot of great information that might help you since you are new to 7cups. For 35+ we have a suggestion box here. @soulsings is there a form that I am not aware of for 50+ suggestions?
Keep up the great ideas for both Sub-Communities. You can always PM @soulsings or myself also or post in any of the forums or create some new ones. Thanks
@Firefly2021 Great ideas. thanks for posting those. DanaMH outlined some of the resources available. If you care to go to guided group discussions then here is the schedule https://www.7cups.com/forum/50OverCommunity_193/TeamToolsandTeamUpdates_1705/50plusDiscussionsScheduleandTopics_172805/
Please let us know if there are other things you are looking for. These self help guides are something that I really find helps me. https://www.7cups.com/supportGuides/selfHelpGuides.php
I deal with loneliness. I dont know how to connect to others with the same issue. I love the motivational and accountability partner. But when they arent available, because they have a life too, I cant move forward. And I feel lost. I am an independent woman. I deal with everything myself, but Im tired. So I would appreciate a forum dealing with loneliness.
@Lauren63
We have some discussions going on in both the 35+ and 50+ rooms about loneliness that might help and sorry that you deal with it. That is great that you like the motivational and accountability partner and I think you have a great partner also that you have. We also have some discussions in 35+ written and being scheduled after approved about connecting with others. Not sure if Meetup.com is in your area but a lot of folks have been connecting with folks with this web page. I will create a forum page in 50+ and also have some ideas that might help with future forum posting regarding that topic also and the discussions in 35+ will be converted into forum postings in 35+ forum pages. You are also welcome in the chat rooms that you will find folks that want to talk about this topic also.
@DanaMH if I were that outgoing that I could do that, I wouldnt be lonely. Its been hard being here. Trying to talk. I can small talk people . But talking, its hard. I appreciate what you are saying. Maybe someday.
@Lauren63
If I can help any just let me know and I made the page already that folks were just tagged on also.
@DanaMH I not sure any one can do anything anymore. Thanks
@Lauren63
There is something that can always be done. I know I will be on vacation for 2 weeks starting Saturday but others will be around that you can talk to also and your accountability partner if you send them forum postings they will respond. Not sure if you found some good listeners to talk to also in 1;1 and I know the rooms are always there also if you would like to talk in them.
Today was another rough day after only getting about 1.5 hrs of sleep. Grieving the loss of my father who passed on the 11th has really made it difficult for me to function. I got up at 7 so as to leave by 8 so I get to work by 8:30 and begin at 9. Well I woke up crying at 1:20. I had to call and leave a message on the attendance line regarding my falling apart. I then called the workplace insurance company and explained I have exhausted my 3 days of bereavement leave and am not ok. I need to get help with my terrible emotional state before I can be at work and remain professional and cheerful to help callers. Right now I have no drive or will to do anything. I am not going to hurt myself but at the same time I dont want to be here...
@bgdave
Sorry to hear that today was another rough day for you. Not getting enough sleep is very hard. Not sure if you can get a nap or not to help out or go to bed early to maybe get some sleep. Is there a therapist around there that you can talk to? Did you find a bereavement group? Sorry again for your loss since it is hard. Have you tried reaching out to talk to a listener or several of them and maybe check out some of the rooms? I know the 35+ room several folks have lost folks and might have ideas to help cope.
Journaling might help some also.
