What is one good thing in your life right now. The one truly good think in my life right now is my GF.

What is one challenging thing in your life right now and what are you doing to help with this challenging thing? Work is being challenging these days. The problem is a VP who has decided he dislikes me, and causes me all kinds of problems. There isn't anything I can do about him. All I can do is keep from being put into his sphere of influence.

@Offmytrack

That is great to hear that your gf is there for you and that she is a good thing in your life.

Sorry to hear that work is challenging for you. Have you thought about talking to HR about the issues with the VP?

Sorry to hear that but there is always a President that is over the VP if you decide to go that route.

Thanks, @DanaMH, but I think the easiest route is just to stay out of his way. That should work.

The big retirement question is always a hard one for folks. Some things to keep in mind is do you have enough money to stop working and what is going to keep you busy and enjoying life. A lot of folks leave co-workers and then don't know how to fill their day since all they have known for so many years is work. But again, that is when the fun starts and some take on new hobbies, travel more and visit relatives and friends more also and have lots of fun.

The other big thing a lot of folks don't look into is how much medical insurance cost since that is a big chunk of your bills after retirement.

I used to enjoy retirement discussion but the last 10 years have taken that right off the rails and looks like retirement will not happen at all, surviving once I can no longer create income will be the challenge.

@ruffneckred

Not sure if you will get a retirement check from your work. If in the US there is also a small check once you become of age or those on disability before that age receive a check also. Not sure if your country does that if you aren't in the US. However, I agree money is a lot tighter once you retire.

@DanaMH

My observation some 30 years ago was that you fund your retirement via a 3 legged stool. Your savings, your pension or work based pay after ceasing employment, and a government stipend. I suppose one could call a 401K as part of the second item but since the lion's share is self contribution it seems to me that it is part of the first component. I am well aware of the US social security system as it makes appearances on my paychecks as a substraction, however the way politicians and leeches of society have latched onto that mess I don't feel it will be present when the time is at hand, and by current calculations it will be a pittance as far as providing a reasonable existance. In short if you are depending on a current employer or the government to take care of you, then you have much more faith and insight than I do.

Good is that I have many more tools than before.

What is one challenging thing in your life right now and what are you doing to help with this challenging thing?

Challenge is to stay as I am so I will continue using my "new" routine and tools and giving the body what might be lacking.

Despite the cooler weahter here in Florida which of course is way better than up North I'm still able to take a brisk two mile walk each day. Current concerns are paying my property taxes by tomorrow but should work out fine in the end!

@MarkW

That is great to hear that you can walk outside which is a great coping skill. Yes, some of the country has it pretty cold and with snow and ice or both which even makes it colder. The weather doesn't help when you are trying to fly somewhere either since they have to deice the planes which then if you have connections you might miss depending on how long that line is also. I agree they want a lot of money for property taxes.
