Chronic Fatigue: Changing Your Schedule

You may find it helpful to change your schedule to take advantage of times when you have more energy and feel less tired.

Keep a diary for a week or so, and record the times of day when you have energy and when you are tired.

If there is a pattern to how your energy levels change during the day, try to plan your work, school, or other activities around that pattern. If there are certain times of day when you are usually very tired, plan to rest at those times. When possible, plan work and other busy activities for times of day when you feel more energetic.

Resist the temptation to overdo it when you are feeling energetic. If you try to do too much, you may become overtired, and it may take several days for you to recover.

It is not always easy to adjust a busy schedule. Keep in mind that even small changes can make a difference in how tired you feel.

How are you doing? What are some ways that you can change your schedule?

@DanaMH I think your suggestion of doing things when you have the most energy is great. I find that as I get older my most energetic time is in the late morning so that is when I get the most done.

Another thing that happens is when I sit down to go online that is usually where I stay so I do not go online till I have done the things I need to or else those things do not get done! LOL

@soulsings

I agree finding the time or times of the day that we have the most energy to do things is very important. Maybe you can do breaks when doing things online. Like throw some laundry in and when it needs to be moved to the dryer also do some dusting or whatever and that way everything gets done and you can spread things out. This would also help with not focusing on the computer/phone to much without breaks.

@DanaMH do some dusting. What is that? LOL reminds me of this poem

Dust If You Must

by Rose Milligan

Dust if you must, but wouldn't it be better
To paint a picture, or write a letter,
Bake a cake, or plant a seed;
Ponder the difference between want and need?

Dust if you must, but there's not much time,
With rivers to swim, and mountains to climb;
Music to hear, and books to read;
Friends to cherish, and life to lead.

Dust if you must, but the world's out there
With the sun in your eyes, and the wind in your hair;
A flutter of snow, a shower of rain,
This day will not come around again.

@GustyOne4U @Soulsings

I just don't think my husband will go for that excuse of not dusting thou. At least I get to milk the house cleaning and stuff for 6 weeks and you know I will be enjoying everyday of that.

I've been keeping a journal for over thirty years. It may have helped me some. My big challenge now is taking an exercise class twice a week, during working hours. I often get tied up with work and miss my class.

@Offmytrack

That is great to hear that you have been journaling and that many years is awesome. Sorry to hear that work is causing you to miss your exercise class. Not sure if you can adjust your work hours some or take different classes.

I've noticed my best times are either late morning, or early evening. I try to save tasks that don't require so much 'brain power' for those times when my energy is low.

Sorry to hear that. Where we used to live for 15 years they didn't either because we used to live on a very busy street and the speed limit was 45mph.
