I spent most of the weekend resting and watching movies. Took care of household chores as necessary, but otherwise stayed quiet.

It was amazing!

@amiablePeace77 My husband LOVES scary movies, so we watched "The Conjuring II". We both like detective movies so we watched "Stone Cold". Then, we rounded out the movie marathon on a lighter note with a Disney movie "Beauty and the Beast".

How was your weekend? My weekend was pretty good. No problems.

What have you done for self-care this weekend and did you do the things you planned to do? Self care was taking proper care of my eye that I had surgery on. I have been meticulous about that. I was able to do the things I had planned on as well, so all is good.

I did want to see the new Elton John film, but I ended up taking care of a lot of odds and ends. I baked bread, did errands and chores and caught up on paperwork. But I also managed to go hiking and got out for a couple dog-walks. And I spent a great deal of time learning my new smartphone.

Chores have to be done, sigh, guess Rocketman is a great movie, saw the trailer, but you hopefully can watch that movie soon, maybe weekend or so, at least you could enjoy a double dog walk, sounds like a lot of fun.

Btw what type of bread did you bake?

@Butterflee

Hi, I wish I could tell you there is a quick fix, a cure for depression but I cant. What I learned, however, is that good self-care particularly during episodes of depression can shorten the time and severeness.

Learning to deal and possibly let go of what has happened, the past, the possible trauma, is one of the essential steps towards a better life. Noone should have to live in the past. heart

Sometimes dreams come true and I hope very much that some of yours will, maybe not this one but hopefully another one.

Sending you a bunch of Sunflowers.

@amiablePeace77 thank you from my heart🤗❤. My depression lasts for more than 7 yers now. Major depression does not enable people to engage in self care anymore. It's like something snaps in your mind and your mind simply doesn't let you do anything anymore, even the simplest of things... I am a modest person, all I wanted was a cabin in the mountain to be with my "wolves" (dogs), cater for passing hikers or mountaineers...or have my land and a sailboat in the delta...you are very kind to me Peace, i will be left with my drems but that is fine too, what does it matter if we live it physically or in our mind...life is too cruel on people...ty again Peace, you chose a good name to represent you...🤗

I can't even imagine what you're going through, 7 years of depression, a time of constant pain. I do hope that you have the medical and therapeutic support you need.

Those are beautiful dreams indeed. Is there anything what bring you moments of happiness in your life now, maybe just very little things?

@Lauren63 can you please give me advice, people who manage to do basic chores? When I am alone I cannot do anything because I say what is the point? I know what I have to do and I can do it easily and done it all my life with ease bit stress...but when I am alone all life shuts down in me...everything...deep major depression...not that I need any physical help...just some soul with me...otherwise there is no motivation and the black question comes back: why bother?...

@Butterflee Because its disgusting to live in a filthy house. The grass gets done when I have time. And I work. I have to, I cant just say I am not going to do it. If I did, I would be giving in.

@Lauren63 I admire your mental and character strength...something just switched off in my mind completely. I don't want to live in a filthy house and I am physically capable of doing anything plus I used to loce si called "chores" (i was dancing with my dog while vacuuming), i was cooking, i did everything in the house while I was married. I renovated my apt with my own hands in colege after I got married, working after classes till 6 am in the morning...many other things...now that I am alone I lay in darkness and filth and do nothing, something switched off in my mind...very nasty...they call it major depression as a label but I see it as smth very dangerous because I cannot overcome it...people call depressives hoarders or procrastinates or lazy but I was nothing like that till 7 years ago...when I'm alone I do not see any point in doing anything...

@Butterflee

Butterflee, going through a divorce and building a new life on your own is a very big challenge for everyone. I am so sorry that in the process you seem to have lost your meaning of life. Things can get better, I am not saying it's easy, no, it is hard work, doing one step after the other, small steps, learning to love yourself for what you are, seeing what you accomplished in your life and valuing it. When doing chores I personally find it very encouraging to make a to-do-list which includes rewards too.

Sometimes others say words which are so hurtful just because they do not understand. Laziness and depression are 2 different things!

HUGS heart

Today is a hard day for me..feeling so tired!! I went for a long walk today and it has been so hot here where I live its crazy!! Also my weight gain is making it harder for me to be as active. I went home and changed because I was so sweaty and waited for the temp outside to cool down. I met with my friend Emily who has the same condition I have. We ate at Chick Fi La because we both love that place!! It was great to see her but I did not feel good after. I think its my body telling me to stop eating there so much even though I am healthy and it keeps on adding more fat on my lower body. Anyway I had on some high waisted really tight jeans and when I walk now my arms dont swing normally I have to swing them almost infront of me since my hips are so wide now or else my forearm will hit or brush against my hips.

@Zulegirl I am sorry you have the challenge of weight gain. A friend got tested for underactive thyroid and is now taking medication because they had that condition. Some meds they were taking also contributed to weight gain. They asked their doc for other pills without the weight gain symptom.

My own experience is that a high protein low carb diet helps me lose weight or maintain where I am. It was hard to give up sweets and carbs, but I feel better mood wise also.

@Zulegirl I used to make home bread and sit down to eat it out of the oven. I made a two pound loaf and finished half of it in one sitting. I just had to change my ways. I did start to change. The hardest part was in the beginning. Then my tastes tuned into spicy rather than sweet and protein and veggies rather than big carb meals. It takes time to adjust.

Walking in the heat is extra hard to me I hope you had enough liquid with you. I rather do the "walk inside" when it's hot here or walk late in the afternoon when cooler. Btw there are some good videos on the internet - Walk a Mile as example.

I learned that it's a good sign if your body tells you to stop eating certain food (body intelligence) and eat healthier. As far as I know pear shape is the healthiest body shape (so my doc said) but still, if there is some extra weight on the hips you don't want it's not comfortable. Diet and exercise for special body shapes can be very helpful, also I find (just personal opinion) observing digestion, making sure gut flora is okay are good ways to go. https://www.healthline.com/nutrition/gut-bacteria-and-weight
