Hello there, I'm a total neebie to 7 cups, just signed up, and glad that there is a 50s forum. Am dealing with anxiety (sometimes very high and all day, sometimes I get a break). I have anxiety at my job and at home. In reality my life is great (at least that's what people tell me, and it looks like that from the outside). I try meditation, meds, etc. Making slowly progress, with lots of setbacks.

That's all for now. Not sure what people discuss here (I also have a bit of problems with the web-interface, I hope this is the right way to post)

@scarletPear1945 Thank you. I hope to make some connections here also. Even one would be one more than I have here in the 'real' world. I de-facebook-ized myself about a year ago and I don't regret it. But I do sometimes miss connecting with others, even if it was just fake.

@scaryperry1

I definitely agree with you. I did the same thing with the Facebook scene Too much drama for melaugh

So what brings you to 7Cups if you don't mind me asking?

@scarletPear1945 The search for connection I suppose. Isn't that what we're all trying to ultimately find? I do understand that any pseudo-connections I might find, and any someone else might find with me (yeah right, like I have anything to offer), are just that, pseudo-connections. I'm not a fan of FB but one thing it taught me is that anonymous connection through an app will never replace real face to face relationships. But any port in a storm will do.

@scaryperry1 that's a wonderful realisation...yes we all need those close bonds with a 'personal touch' which social media may not be able to give.

@amarifey Hey another "nifty fifty" from February! I turned the big 5-0 in February, too. It was a lot more traumatic than I had imagined it to be -- just a lot of angst and feeling old and lost leading up to it. The actual birthday wasn't too bad, though, and I guess I'm coming to some sort of acceptance/peace with the notion that I'm "old." Explore the sight and welcome. :-)

Hi 50s.

I'm 55 and Kate Spade's death (also 55) hit me hard even though I didn't follow her career or own any of her handbags.

I just figured most people at 55 has this sh*t figured out. I have the same reaction with Robin WIlliams who's career I loved (Dead Poet's Society and Fisher King). I'm a nobody but I wonder if celebrities (with money to get expert help) can't feel any better means maybe it's just a losing battle before the depression wins.

It's been so many years ... so many meds, therapy, hypnosis, diet, exercise...I'm exhausted. When do I feel better for more than a few weeks at a time? When is it "getting better"? I wonder about getting transcranial magnetic stimulation. Something different to try.

I stay alive for the pople who do love me (though I can't think why they do) and I don't want to upset anyone or make then feel guilty.

And I do have times of feeling good. I just don't know how to keep them going. The depression cost me my 20-year job and now I'm utterly useless. It's a very dark place.

So there my very cheerful hello.
