Cheri’s Connection Corner - Your Third Place & Positivity
Have you ever heard of a "third place?"
A sociological term, third places are those places where people spend time between home ("first place") and work ("second place"); places where you go to unwind and feel happy and unjudged.
Cafes, public libraries, gyms, pubs, parks: these are all often thought of as third places.
You enter them with few barriers, and meet people from all walks of life, with whom you somehow feel a sense of commonality, as different from you as they may be.
These interactions act as the glue to social cohesion in our society.
In this digital age we're currently living in, third places are especially important.
Where are YOUR third places? Would you like to include more third places in YOUR life? How does it add positivity to YOUR life?

Awesome idea! I always felt this place was rehearsals with my band! Wherever and whenever we got together to play, practice or perform, on stages, in rehearsal rooms or even in someone's back yard - it felt like perfect comfort and support, safe and interesting for me! I loved it!
Coffee shops are definitely my third place along with parks & gardens. I wasn't familiar with the term, but I love it. I find them a way of feeling connected without any pressure since I can just sit and read (and maybe eavesdrop a little 😉. During lockdown I really missed my coffee shop time and found all these 'coffee shop ambience' videos on Youtube which I would play in my living room for background noise.

I love the idea of background noise fabulous!! I enjoy listening to others and the buzz of a cafe too. 💕💕💕💕💕
I love the coffee shop ambiance and coffee shop jazz things on YouTube. They help me relax and unwind.
Where are YOUR third places?
The beach and trails where I ride my bike - I don't work but I spend time at a community center a few times a week to attend peer-to-peer group support meetings.
Would you like to include more third places in YOUR life?
Possibly, but it would require time to go somewhere. I don't know where that would be, either.
How does it add positivity to YOUR life?
