I am not sure if whomever came up with this concept watch too much Cheers or what.

My personal experience of 57 years tells me that such places are rare or non-existent since i have never encountered such a place.

If anyone has had this experience i would like to hear about it. Do people go out of their way to speak to you about more than just how your drink is? In addition how did this come about that you became part of the group?

My third place is the gym. It's the only public place I go regularly. I don't interact with anyone there despite seeing the same people there 4 or 5 times a week because I'm not there to socialize. While I frequent .area restaurants regularly, I don't think i would call them third places.

While adding more third places to my life would probably be beneficial, not being a people person is hampering that....its something I definately need to work on.

My 3rd place is literally my car in which I commute solo to and from job. Sometimes when I feel better I listen to podcasts or such.

It's not exactly fun or stress free.

But, since you asked...

Unfortunately I don't have any third place. I am always running between work and family

I do not outside of here at 7 cups

My third place has been the ice rink. It’s a fun way to exercise and since the practice times are on a set schedule I see the same people all the time.

I realized my depression and anxiety were getting worse because I stopped going to the rink. I have to have a lesson scheduled or I can’t get out of the house. 😢

I don't go every day or even every week or month, as one is often required to spend money to hang out in "third places". Inflation has been hitting everyone in the wallet/purse & I'm no exception.

However...at the risk of offending others here: my most frequent third place is the local Hooters restaurant/bar. I didn't go for young men's usual reasons....(can't ogle the waitresses as they're all young enough to be my daughter, if I had one!) I went there to get out of my aptmt & sketch the girls, usually with ink & brush. Call it sketch-painting. I built up a reputation in the place, & it even spread to one of their restaurants in the town just north of me. Even now, there are a few long-term people--waitresses & the manager for 1st shift--there who know me for my talents.

...it was easier to do when I was drinking more, though.
