An introduction
This is difficult for me. I’m not used to describing myself (or thinking of myself) as anything but a mother or a speech therapist. Maybe that’s because it’s what I’m best at.
I’m 53, divorced my narcissist ex husband 10 years ago, and openly left the cult I was raised in around the same time. I have never related well to my siblings, but leaving the cult made that impossible. I seem to be getting worse at making and keeping friends- when depression hits, I check out. I just lost the only one I had left. I only have a good relationship with my 3 adult children, of which I am proud (of my kids and of our relationships with each other). I have ADHD, and since the medication shortage, I’ve lost 3 jobs- each time coinciding with the inability to fill my prescription. I’m currently living in my son’s 1 bedroom apartment with my youngest and 2 dogs. My usual distractions- sewing, painting, pottery- I have no room or money for and my problems are too big to ignore anymore. What worries me the most is that I haven’t listened to music in years. It used to feel like my lifeline.
Something’s gotta give.

Hi notasweetheart. It is nice to meet you! Glad you have joined our community! Thanks for introducing yourself. What you describe in your post sounds incredibly challenging, so glad that you made it out of that marriage and cult! Depression is tough and draining and living with AHDH adds to it. So sorry to hear about the shortages in medication. Is there any way you can order them outside the country with the help of your doctor? I find that music can be very helpful in changing our mood and help us to relax too. What songs did you like in the past?
I hope you find the support you need here and learn coping strategies to help you deal with your depression and ADHD. This is a link where you can find a number of self-help guides Self Help Guides | 7 Cups. You can always connect to a listener here for comfort and support.
@notasweetheart A few things:
- I'd bet you're more if a sweetheart than you think you are. You seem like someone with low self-esteem (or maybe not much at all)...people with that problem usually don't see the good parts of their character.
- Didn't know there was a med shortage. Not good news...I hope that doesn't include any heavy stuff, like antipsychotic drugs & tranquilizers.
- There is no reason to go without music these days. Even if you can't afford pottery supplies, you can find music of every kind on You2b, Sound.Cloud & probably other platforms I'm not aware of. If you can afford Internet access, then you can find music. And download it if you like. I've never paid for any streaming service, & never will.
