Need advice!!
Hi, so I'm a 16 year old from india and the craze of becoming an engineer over here is crazy. Parents hear want their children to either become doctors or engineers. My parents are forcing me to become an engineer and I'm preparing for an exam for it. But my heat says otherwise. I love music and I really wanna pursue a career in music. I really don't know what to do. I feel like I'm wasting my time. Someone please help me. My parents don't support me. And by the time I fulfill their dream and start working for mine, it will be too late as the competition isn't less either. Please help.
@btssavedmee Just a thought, software engineering might work for the music field. There are mathematics in music and physics in sound waves that music creates. There is music psychology. So may be ways to mix science and music in a way that satisfies your parents and and at least keeps you connected to the music field. Oh perhaps something like this, see this mixed major in music/engineering at Northwestern Uni.

I would add that with academic training in engineering, one can then pursue many very diverse careers. There are engineers that work on all sorts of problems, in many different fields. I don't know what sort of opportunities you may have access to, but any chance you have to try an internship for a summer or for a semester is an amazing experience. Maybe you could be a sound engineer or something like that?

Bruh just tell your parents that you can't and cry infront of them or begging. Tell them consequences how bad you are in science how you can be unemployed or just tell the you are girl and it isn't necessary for me to get this much valuable degree yk I can just do something that I want I don't have to be breadwinner of the house

Can understand you want to pursue in different field and your parent have different plan for you. For you to prepare for exam is just formality and less interest.
Parent want to see kids have stable career and good earning so they look mainly engineering or doctor and that most of the case ,though now many field their is stability.
Like someone gave you great suggestion how you can merge both field.
What about pursuing it as hobbies and learn particular niche in music..later can join a band in college and perform in event.
Hugs it tough and disappointing for you. But i am sure you would find way to keep your passion alive.

Read your other post and your parent did not agree as according to them this field is something hard to make career. If they could have seen clear path how you will progress like if you take engineering or medical you will get job in company .. similar that path if you can research well and lay down than they could convince.
Till you don't experience how difficult the path could be or what are obstacle is it okay to keep doing graduate in other subject and side by side keep exploring and experiencing in music.
I know you want the support saying
do what you want to do we are there for you but is okay . Keep your passion alive and give your best. Surely they will support you. This challenge only will make you more strength.
I know you can't move away from your current situation, but you see we get only one life. You need to learn to let go and at the end of the day, make yourself happy first. It's your life, and you don't want to have any regrets. I know it can get sore with family but you have to wage war to get what you want. It'll be hard, horrible even. But if it's something you're getting or doing for yourself, go for it. With the proper willpower and mindset, you'll be able to do it. Talk to them , and keep being persistent. Take help of others, isolate, and find ways. You don't wanna reach your 80's and regret life decisions do you? I just know that you are capable, and for your dream you can and should do everything! You can do it. Yeah it'll hard but what's the point if just anybody can get it?? Sending in lots of love girl ❤

@btssavedmee I meet same problem. I'm also a teenager and I love cooking. In my country, doctor stands for wealthy. I need to have a lot of classes everyday and study hard. I don't know how to advice you but I wish you will be yourself one day.

It's your life after all, sure your parents did raise youband you need to listen to them but when it comes to life decisions like choosing career, it's YOUR life and YOU get to choose how to live it. Your parents want you to have a secure future but whats the point if after fulfilling their wish, you're not happy at the end of the day when you get older?
I suggest you pursue your dreams even if they dont support you

@btssavedmee fulfilling wishes of parents is good and building career is necessary. We can choose parent wishes as career and our passion as an hobby. Work on your passion in free time.
Just go for both . Music isn't a money generating future securing field. There's lot of struggle . Also in future you gonna thank your parents when cash cheque comes in your bank of 6 to 5 figures. You gonna be rich and can have more resources to do your music. Also in india half of the population listens to foreign music . But still last choice is yours. If you aren't good in mathematics or science please don't take it and if you really don't want to please don't waste seat of someone who truly wholeheartedly wants to pursue engineering as their career.
I dont wanna waste a seat for someone who might deserve it...
And I'm well aware that indians listen to more of foreign music especially teens like me. I'm not a fan of bollywood or hindi songs personally myself.
I obviously wasnt gonna sing hindi songs when i said it.
Also, i appreciate yur advice. I did talk to y mom today and sh denied completely. But I'm not giving hope this easily. I never will.
@btssavedmee I understand how parental pressure can be. Try talking to them, the ball's now in their court. But I also am aware of the fact that parents can be strict, so in the mean time, no one is stopping you from working on your dream, right? Start posting on youtube or someplace, start gathering experience that might help you down the road, there are a lot of things under the term "Music", if you like composing, just start, if you like writing, just write a couple lines every day... what I mean to say is, just start doing it, you'll figure the rest out soon.

I did talk to my mom today and it didnt go well
She said that we're the middle class family and i shouldnt take any risk by doing something were money isnt necessarily available.
Convincing her is even more difficult as she herself was an art professor at a university and she says there is no scope.
Idk why parents dont understand. I'm ready to take responsibility.
They don't get it, but I'm not backing off from my dream. I'll keep working for it(:
