Parent Problems
Hey there,
I’m a 52-year-old woman feeling a bit frustrated with my 75-year-old mom. She spends most of her time playing mobile games and watching *** Reel videos, often neglecting to clean up after herself or do the dishes. This isn’t the first time I’ve noticed this behavior; it reminds me of when I was growing up. I know she’s perfectly capable of taking care of her own mess.
How do I handle this? Or how can I handle this while visiting?

I feel she should be more vigilant with her chores.
I don't believe it's really your responsibility. My mother is like that. It is a very frustrating thing to deal with. I empathize with you totally..Thanks for sharing! 🌲
@AsherTree You're welcome and thanks 🤗. How do you handle your mother when she gets like this? I tend to bottlethe emotionsup, because I don't want say something I would regret.

You should probably ask another listener. I would just ask what's the problem? Why won't you keep the house clean? I failed to make much progress with her but she at least started to do the dishes more often.
She’s 75 most people no longer have their parents around and miss them everyday! If her playing mobile games ( she’s 75 what else could she be doing) and not cleaning is minor things) enjoy the time you have with her
@ArtByT2026 I am so sorry you are dealing with this. It is totally natural to feel frustrated. Please hang in there, and I hope things get better for you soon
@ArtByT2026 It's only a suggestion; maybe offer to do those things together? I do that with my mom when she isn't feeling motivated; sometimes it works, and sometimes she prefers not to, so I don't push it. So yeah, hope this helps, maybe
Sorry to listen your problem.
Mobile is very big problem nowadays for both young and also for old one.
As far as your mother is concerned, I think she have no other choice to do any other work.
What you want she should do other than playing reels ?
Could be Dementia or Alzheimer's. Both conditions take years for people to understand it's happening. Doctors can run simple tests. You could also research these conditions so you can know yourself if that process has begun. My mom has Dementia. My grandmother Alzheimer's. My uncle Dementia. None of what they do is intentional. It's the disease.

Why don't you do it for her?
Just a suggestion! Every once in a while, if you pop in and find a mess, you could help her with it. I'm sure she would appreciate it, and maybe that would motivate her to do her chores as well.
