Starting over in life & relationships
I'd love to see some interesting discussion on this topic. Anyone in this forum who is 50+ has certainly had many opportunities to start over.
Work, relationships, redefining yourself, etc.
Please share a time when you started over, and how it worked (or didn't work!) for you. What "wisdom" did you gain from your experience?
I wanted to start this thread because I'd love to hear other people's stories.
I feel that I've started over a lot lately, and sometimes that feels really frustrating and draining, but also an interesting experience, because I'm always learning more about myself, and others.
I left my marriage a few years ago. As the "leaver" I had (have) a terrible case of "leaver's guilt" - it was a horrible decision to have to make, but ultimately I decided that was the best decision for me. Leaving my marriage caused me to have to start over with getting to know myself as an individual, redefining my relationships with my kids, and also starting over with work.
Leaving my marriage was incredibly difficult. I jumped right into a rebound relationship of sorts, that lasted probably longer than it should have. I know I shouldn't have jumped right into it in the first place, but I did, and I can't go back and undo that. That relationship has just ended and I know I really need to focus on myself and get comfortable with myself and figuring out exactly "Who am I?" when I really have a chance to be me, not influenced by the presence of another person in my life.
Starting over in the working world has also been stressful. I had been a full time stay at home mom for so many years, I feel basically obsolete in the working world, and then covid came along and upended everything. I am still trying to figure out exactly what I want to be when I grow up. I have a better appreciation now, and more confidence now, at this point in my life, for starting over in a non-conventional way. Partly, i know myself better and what's important to me, so I've been able to maintain a good work-life balance.
Every time I start over with some major life event, I take wtih me all the knowledge of my past mistakes, past experiences, past interactions, etc., And I hope I have learned valuable lessons along the way, and know myself better. I know I have the right to be picky about the work I choose and the people I choose to spend time with. I want the time I have on this earth to feel rewarding and satisfying. I feel like I'm always trying to be the best person I can be, even when that's really hard. I want to be someone I am proud to be.
Please feel free to comment on my starting over experiences, or feel free to share your own. Thanks!
So sorry you have faced many challenges. This is such a great topic.
Thank you for this thread.
I do love you getting to know yourself loving that so much. 💕 It is a process as mothers and wives we are used to caring for others and organizing everyone else’s needs. It is time for you now. You are worthy of that time.
Work changes I understand I have lived experience with that. They say a change is as good as a rest. I switched with careers and it was an adjustment.
You are right there are more opportunities now choose work that brings you joy. Yes Be Picky! Work life balance yes 🙌 it takes focus to do that glad that is working for you.
Starting over is a new chapter and a new opportunity. Build the life you want on your terms. There will be challenges along the way adjust and re adjust as necessary.
I understand wanting to be the best person you can be … you want to be happy have support in your life family and friends and work that you enjoy that fits your life.

I had depression and relationship problems for a long time, I had a lot of distrust in my soul mate, I even started to use an application that I learned about here to read other people's perepesika and do for her here. but over time, when I learned that everything is normal and I should rethink my thoughts, I lost depression and I concentrated on my business and everything began to work, I can say that we go deeper into their thoughts all much easier than it seems!
Thanks for sharing!
I would really love to read some other people's stories here, I know you all have a story about starting over! 😎
After dealing with being laid off and getting cancer (it's in remission now) I'd like to start over but I'm broke.
