What i want to be when I grow up.
Did you have hopes to grow up to have a particular job or self purpose when you grew up?
You often see in media a child say a fireman or policeman but honestly i never had any expectations or hopes like that when i was little.
I was never sure what I wanted when I was little. I did go to university and choose a girly career … nutrition degree. If I were young nowadays I would choose differently maybe.
I am 57 and long ago girls choose traditional careers …. 💕
One thing I wanted was helping others in my life in my career and in my retirement. That is why I absolutely love 7cups. I took a long hiatus returned this past January. I love it here everyone creates such a community …

1966 is a great year!
I just knew that I wanted kids and I wanted to be happy. When I was younger, I knew there was a lot more to life than just a career. I had a stay at home guardian and one that worked so I saw the balance that it could bring.
I lost sight of that when I enter middle school honestly. I had teacher who pushed us girls into STEM careers and such. I got into a STEM career and while I don’t regret it because of where I ended up, I completely lost sight of that balance. In my career field, it was on call 24/7, do more with less, work until you die because your saving lives and making society advancements.
I’m now a stay at home mom with girls. I’m raising them that they can be anything they want so long as they put the hard work in, but that everything in life as a trade offs.
Most young kids I’ve encountered really only focus on family, learning, and new adventures. It’s not until they start to get to middle school and higher where they’re pressured to know what they want to do with their live and start learning about money where I’m seeing the career aspirations come in.
Maybe you just aren’t easily peer-pressured.
First, an ice-skater. Didn't know what it meant for an adult, I was figure skating at that time when I was 6-7, going to courses and so. That was what I did day and night, so it was an automatic response when asked I guess. Today it sounds not right though. I was into languages from early age but never ever thought I would pursue a degree or even specialise. That happened. I am still not there interestingly. I still ask myself what do I want to be. Maybe it was 'that' kind of question when we were little. Lost in adulthood kind of question. We are what we are, who we are.
Had several ambitions, but overall wanted to serve honorably, help others, be part of something bigger than myself, then retire and enjoy life that I earned.
Pretty much hit most of the marks. Military service for over 20 years, service in the government assisting the military for 18 more years, volunteer at schools and veteran organizations, and now trying to figure out how to enjoy the remaining time I have left. Trying to encourage others with hope has been pretty rewarding lately. Good Luck.
