Hi. Should I be here?

It's a fair question, since the only other age-related group is 30+ & I am not, nor have I ever been, a millennial.

Chronologically (or "technically") I'm in my late 40's. But as with every year in a human life, there is a "young year" or an "old year", depending on various factors. In my case, it is because of chronic illness conditions & episodes of depression that I am not all that physically active. On some days, I act like a man in his early 70's. I've walked with a cane for years, not as a fashion accessory.

So...do I belong here or not?

@slowdecline48

Welcome to the 50+ sub-community. I am so very sorry you are having to live with chronic illness and depression, it can be very debilitating. The 50+ community is for everyone 18 and older so you are in the right place and I hope that you will find the support you need here. I look forward to see you in discussions and open chats, which are a great way to connect with others here on the site.

@slowdecline48

You definitely belong wherever you feel you belong, and wherever you feel you want to be. If being somewhere would make you feel better, would take a bit of the heavy load off your days, would offer you some respite from the daily grind, be there and stay and enjoy.

I came to realise that age is not a crucial factor in here, we all have similar problems and looking for almost the same things: mutual support, words of encouragement, feeling not alone, and much more. You put it eloquently, some times one feels much older. But sometimes, it is the little things or the little words or the little shows of solidarity that make the days and years lighter.

We are all humans, and this is why we found our ways to here, regardless of age.

Normally I don't bump old dusty threads but...

@Helgafy - Yes, I hang with the 50+ crowd here. Am technically under 50 but I'm < two years away from qualifying...you know how fast they go by. With my chronic health issues, in lifestyle terms I'm there already. I have days where I act like a man in his late 60's or older. In the last few years I even made a series of memes about "You Know You're Getting Older When..." (I put a few of 'em in another thread here, too!)

@slowdecline48.  I can relate to what you are saying. When I was in 40’s and 50’s I was already in my 70’s with regard to lifestyle due to chronic health issues !
