Hi, I turned 60 this year....it wasn't the best of Birthdays, but a few friends came and sat in my garden - 2m apart and we talked about all sorts. 50th was awful too!

Being 50 plus gives you a label. It starts with the age ranges in polls and surveys. The Saga people start sending their cruise holiday ads, women in Britain get the Mammogram letter through their letter box, I have been advised to look at retirement complexes....WHAAAAAT?

Women in particular seem to have more obvious signifiers of age - menopause, loss of bone mass amd height. Beingjudged by our sexual currency, (non) ability to reproduce and suchlike. I would like to see a celebration of our maturity, our warrior-like qualities having been through so many rites of passage, mutual support. We as women don't do enough of that.

By the way, I am celbrating my 60th with 60 great things to do or places to see in the year...COVID stopped me travelling - and earning. However, I shaved my hair and dyed it blush pink. Rah!

@adventurousBranch3786 as a young woman I was bullied. I thought that because they hated me so much, it made no difference what I did... so, I always did what I wanted anyway. Love and light xx

Hey there! I was reading the post and replies between you and @quietStrawberries9260 and wanted to chime in too.

I turned 50 in 2019 and, for me, that milestone felt liberating. I finally no longer felt like a scared kid (stuck in an aging body). And, like @quietStrawberries9260 I dyed my hair purple (pink soon followed, lol).

Fast forward through 2019 and to the present of 2020 (during which I suffered many traumatic situations back to back). I found myself searching for my own answers to my situations (follow the dots...) and I came to 7 Cups.

Surprisingly, this site has been a mixed blessing. While I am VERY thankful individual listeners that I've talked with, I'm finding that navigating the website and fitting into the general chatrooms has been difficult. I spent some time in the general chatroom last night (most people in there were in their 20 & 30 ages) but I felt like I didn't understand most of the current references. Today, I got all excited because I saw there was a 50+ chat event and I was SOOO looking forward to it. The designated time came, and I couldn't find the room!!! Then someone explained that I was missing a badge. That did it!!!! I was sitting here, on my phone, crying like a lost kid, as I had to type back "I don't understand what that means!!!" (I'm okay to laugh at it now, lol).

I guess that today was the first time that I felt "old".

Sorry, I didnt mean to chase that rabbit, lol. I DO like the people who I've talked with so far!! And I'm really looking forward to being more involved, once I get my sense of direction.

Hope to talk soon!,

Sher

@SeekerSher Hi nice to have you here! Wow another brave person who dyed their hair purple/pink. I believe that you are probably missing Strong Bond 1 badge. 5 chats with 5 different listeners are needed for this badge. Check out Silentobserver's office in group forum support. I hope to see you in a 50+ chat.

Thank you for the Welcome!!!

Yes, that is what I'm missing 😁. I will certainly try to find what you referenced. [Heads out to start search... if you see me walking in circles; please point me in the correct direction (again) LOL ]

Hello, I agree with what everyone is saying and going onto the General chatroom and I just can not keep up and they hardly ever welcome you when you enter. Sometimes they just stop. talking.
I ate all the telemarketing calls about insurance as if I am going to keel over in the next few days. I use to transport elderly people to the store and they would stop everybody telling them about their aches and pains and the medicines they were on
I would get so sick of hearing them. But guess what?, now I understand, now I am one of them (lol)laugh I am probably the oldest person on 7cups. Will be 70 in November. My great-grand told me that I was just old and to old to pick her up she is 6.
Ben Gay is now my friend, Denture cream for the teeth, Lord helps the memory that is trying to slip (lol). My bones sound like a box of Rice Krispys=Snap, crackle, and pop.
I had suggested a senior room or forum on the Round Table Thread way back in 2017 and I was told they did not think they had a need for that, But look at our progressenlightened

50+... well, I know a heck of a lot more than when I was younger. Things don't bother me the same way they used to. I don't tear myself apart over things I don't have a lot of control over. However, I still tend to obsess over various decisions and sometimes get myself stuck where I simply won't make a choice or avoid the choice.

@adventurousBranch3786 i am not finding the 50+ group to be very active. It is rather difficult to find any chats or discussions on a daily basis. I have seen the schedule with a few sessions listed. one of those sessions included an isolation topic and it isn't until the end of November. That means 3 more weeks to wait to talk about isolation. There are many people isolated now and could use more of a daily check in.
thank you for allowing us to respond to this thread.

Hi, I'm 48 so technically not quite "there" yet, although I feel like I was born older than my chronological years. I find @SeekerSher's sentiments about this place very much the case for me, with respect to chats and listeners. I don't either much anymore, just limiting to posting in forums. I hope it's okay (or even possible) if I join the 50+ and just lurk and listen. wink

Turning 50 is golden age. Iam 51.proud to be here I longed to reach this age since I turned 40. My curiosity was to experience menopause symptoms but I thought it was easy but I realized there are so strong in me that what I faced as a teen. But iwas prepared so they don't stress me. Iam ready to share these in this forum. It's a golden stage.

I find it so helpful to be in touch with for I can express myself well and freely to encourage others. I wish the support can be in planned phases.in way that we approach one issue at a time. For example if it's on loneliness.or depression etc we express how it has come to us and how we dealt with it. Thus we support each other.

I'm totally new to this community as well as to 7 cups in general. Obviously I can't speak to what has gone before, but I can say that I hope that there sharing or events that help us see the positive in the age at which we find ourselves, especially at a time when youth and beauty are still the watch words of the day. I feel good about myself. I hope we all do, because we all deserve it. Thank you all!

Cheers,
Crim
