50 and nervous to date
What's it like being 50 and dating. Seems like the dating world is much different nowadays
@newlydivorcedmike I have not been in the dating scene for a long time, but you are right, the dating scene is different.
There are ways to meet people like in meet ups and social groups you meet people. I find the older I get the less I am concerned about finding someone as I did when younger.
Hope you get some good responses. soulsings
Back in the day when we were in our 20's and 30's, people mostly met each other at real-life interactions. We met potential partners through school, work, social outings, events, or through friends.
Now it seems the easiest way to meet people is through online dating apps. THAT is an entirely different world. But in principle, the same idea. There are a LOT of people out there that you will probably have no interest in, and maybe a few that look potentially interesting. If you go the dating app route, you'll probably find a lot of dead ends, you will probably be really frustrated with the whole experience. You'll need to be honest with yourself and about yourself. Really, just be yourself, but have a good idea first of who you really are, and what kind of relationship you really want, BEFORE you start putting yourself out there. There really are a lot of fish in the sea. You just may get lucky and find someone (probably with a lot of time and patience) who you really like. It really does happen.
And if you avoid the dating app scene, it's still the same story, there are lots of people out there, they just aren't all concentrated in one place.
And another thing to remember is that by the time we reach 50+, we're all damaged goods. We all have baggage. But that's also a good thing. We've all had a lot more life experiences than we had in our 20s and 30s. We know that people aren't perfect and that relationships take a lot of hard work, but if you find the right person, it's worth the effort.
In the meantime, enjoy being yourself, enjoying and exploring your own personal freedom.
That was probably a very long-winded reply, but I hope that's ok.
@GoingInCircles365 we are all damaged goods.
I'm older and leaving a long time marriage. I remember telling my daughter when she was a teenager, "Do what you love and he will be there." I think I will follow that if and when the time comes. ☺️
