What are your short term GOAL(S) by December 31. 2023?? To have a better working plan for working through some trauma issues. Better tools in my box.😊
year-end goals:
- finish my current cane project.
- draw at least one finished piece. Most likely it will be a work of realism or morbid realism.
- Add $200+ to my emergency fund.

@slowdecline48 Hey slowdecline, I too make hand made walking sticks and Cains. Mine are just crafted from Old tree branches and roots. I remove all the bark and sand them down to a nice grain pattern then Stain and polyurethane them. I Sometimes add fine detail like flames or lightning bolts and others have creeping flowered vines . I have actually sold some of them for $75.00 but people tell me I should charge more .

Here they make hand carved canes with puffins and eagles on them during tourist season. They are beautiful.

There are a number of ways to come up with a price. One of them is to track the time you put into each stick & figure out your hourly wage. ($5/hr is nowhere near enough. These days $12/hr doesn't cut it, either. We all gotta pay the bills!) Don't forget the cost of materials & tools--all that has to be paid for as well.
The 2nd cane I built was a paid commission for a friend of mine...all I'll say is the price was three figures. And it did not start with "1". Too many artists & craftspeople out there do not charge enough for their work, which is why most of us aren't respected in the way doctors, electricians & other professionals are.
Almost forgot to ask: have you posted pics of your work anywhere on here? If not then please do. I'd like to see it. Probably quite a few people here would like to see your finished pieces. Even work-in-progress snapshots would be great.

What are your short term GOAL(S) by December 31. 2023??
I haven't really thought about short term goals....right now my work stress and burnout are front and foremost in my life, all the time.... I'm in a place where I'm just trying to make it day by day..... I guess taking it one day at a time is a short term goal toward my long term goal of actually making it to retirement without doing something drastic like walking out and throwing it all away with just 3 years and 5 months to go....Its not a long time, yet it seems so far away sometimes....

Great long term goal of retirement. The short term goal is your daily work and keeping focused and calm is perfect 👍. The good news is that in 6 month check in you will be so much closer to retirement. Short term goals help us to manage through to to the long term. Every season you are that much closer.
