Wish for happiness
I have always wondered what it would be like to be happy. I don't think I can remember a time in my life I was truly happy. At this point in my life I think it is too late to ever find happiness. I'm not even sure what it is.
Hi, I realize that this post has been dominant for a couple of months, but it is a really good topic for us to share about.
I am 61 years old, and I am single. I would prefer not to be single, but age has provided wisdom and I would rather be alone than in a toxic relationship. That still doesn't relieve the loneliness.
I was told that I responsible for my own happiness. That's great, but it doesn't help when I am in the middle of it. The only way that I ever manage to "work through" this is surrendering it to a Higher Power. (I have chosen to call this Power "God", but the name really doesn't matter.) I just have to accept that there is an "entity" that is Greater than me, who loves me and truly wants me to feel loved and happy. I can seek this from other humans, and they can fulfill this need temporarily, buty expectations seem to always exceed their abilities and I end up disappointed.
Seeking/finding this connection with my Higher Power requires effort, but it is not complicated. It is good to find another person that is on the same journey to talk with, to mentor you through this process, at least in the beginning.
So for me, today I am struggling. Knowing the solution and acting on that knowledge are two different things. I recently tried to find someone locally to helpe get started, but my efforts were limited. I need to try again. I have been through this before, and it worked, but the same resources are no longer available near my home
If you take anything from this, know two things. The first is that you are not alone, many feel as you do. And secondly, the is a solution available to everyone, including you, but we must be willing to accept that the way we have being approaching life isn't working for us. We must be willing to try something different. Depending on my Higher Power frees me up from carrying the weight of the world today. I just need to turn it over to my Higher Power every morning.

Thank you for sharing this post with us. There is a lot of wisdom in it - We must be willing to try something different when things are not working. This can be really hard, often people are so much used to what they've learned, what they know and are hesitant to try something new. Mindfulness helped me to chose different approaches, be patient and let things unfold. I'm glad you find support in a Higher Power, it can be a solid anchor in life!
I hope coming here will help you to feel less lonely and that you soon will find someone locally. Have you considered to join a huddle here at 7cups?
