Your Morning Thoughts

I'd like to know from others, when you wake up in the morning and the fog clears from your head, what are your first thoughts in the morning?

This morning it struck me that my first thoughts are never of me, or they're never happy/positive thoughts. They are always about the worries I have. I was laying there in bed, pretty comfortable, and as I began to wake up my mind started going over all of the things I had to "fix" and all of the potential problems I might come across today. Worries about family members. Worries about the future.

There wasn't a moment where I thought "ah, this is going to be a great day! I'm having lunch with a friend today! My cat is extra snuggly with me this morning! I got a huge project off my plate yesterday which allows me to have some breathing room today!"

Am I the only one thinking this negative way each morning? How do I break this bad habit?

There was a time when I had usually more negative thoughts right after waking up. Sorry to hear that you're going through the same, it can be hard to pick up yourself and get into a positive mindset. Something that helped me was to tell myself repeatedly after waking up "I'm going to make this a good day". Another thing that helped and still helps me is to put on a positive affirmation video or a morning meditation. I try to feed my mind with more positive thoughts so that the negative ones simply have no space to stay.

It's really about making the decision for me to be selfish in the morning. And that's difficult for me because I'm not a selfish person. (At least, I don't think I am!) It's really a very conscious thing I have to make myself do until it becomes a habit, I guess.

This morning I woke up and asked myself to say five positive/happy things about ME for today. No one else. What's good about me? What's good about today? It's surprisingly difficult, and that bothers me. It's easy to go negative. Why is it hard to go positive?

But, it's something I'm really working hard on, and it's going to take practice.

It's easier to go negative because this is how our species has historically ensured survival: think of the worst possible circumstance, and then if it happens, you're prepared, but if it doesn't, you can handle anything less catastrophic, right?

i can relate to all you're saying. With great effort, I have consciously changed my thinking. I make myself think, upon arising, "I give thanks for my great good fortune. I am thankful for my radiant health. I am grateful for all that I have, including my warm, comfortable bed on this cold morning." Or I find other affirmations that are pleasant to the ear and easily memorized. YouTube is full of them. Consciously turning my attention to what I am thankful for causes me to think easily of other things to be grateful for. In this way, I have managed to re-wire my thinking toward more positive channels... which is NOT to say I have become immune to negative thought patterns forever after! The trick is catching myself when I start down a negative pathway, and redirect my thoughts to the present moment, always coming back to "the now moment."

I hope this is helpful to you and others.

It's funny because one morning I was getting ready for work and asked Alexa to give me a positive affirmation. It asked me if I wanted to open up some Positive Affirmation app, so I said yes. It's starts the app - good. It says "repeat the following affirmation" and I think, good - it gives me something to say. But then it goes off and lists at least 20 affirmations in a row (I had to stop it). I was laughing - there is no way to repeat any of it. I think someone needs to fix the app. LOL

But, I'm working on it. I'm trying to be more positive, focus on good things, etc. It's an every day practice.

I believe the more you ask yourself these questions the more you might become aware of all the good things about you and your surroundings which you might not have been aware of. You're doing great in keeping up your practise.

Hi there, nice post!

I usually search with hand the touch with my dog as first thing 😊

Then I usually think about looking outside, depends on the time i wake up i would want to look at the sunrise (during winter it happens not so early like during summer) and the weather, enjoying when it's the kind of weather i like: blue sky!

Nothing better than watching the sun rising in the morning, it's such a peaceful quiet time.
