I thought it might be interesting and even inspiring for those in leadership positions (present and past!) to share a little insight for those who are curious about getting into leadership themselves.

(And it's always nice to check in on the heart of our volunteering!)

My questions:

⭐️ Why did you become a leader?

⭐️  What do you enjoy about it?

⭐️  What personal growth have you experienced through your progression as a 7 Cups leader?

I love this prompt! I've had quite the journey when it comes to leadership on 7 Cups. From running the TOZ discussions team to being a mentor, to safety patrol, and more, I'm grateful for all the people I've met via these positions. It also showed me a whole other side to 7 Cups and helped me gain a lot of professional skills.

For anyone interested in becoming a leader, I would recommend it! However, to also be frank about my journey, I did experience burnout from taking on too much at one time. At a certain point, logging on to 7 Cups became about doing administrative work, and I forgot why I joined in the first place. Now, after an extended hiatus, I no longer hold leadership roles (although I'm thinking about being an ATL/mentor again). Talking to members and focusing on that role helped me reignite my spark for 7 Cups.

All in all, the leadership community is truly wonderful! But I hope anyone reading this learns from my mistakes and paces themselves, and pursues what makes their cup feel full. We often hear stories of being aquiring more roles (worthy of celebration for sure), but I also wanted to put the alternative story out there! Additionally, I think my message to anyone who feels like their positions are their sole purpose/identity on 7 Cups would be that it's okay to step back! It doesn't mean that you're giving up your responsibilities or that you weren't up to the position. We all just have different needs and we equally contribute to the community in our own way!

Ouh! This is fun!

Here are my answers:

⭐️ Why did you become a leader?
I became a leader because I wanted to make a positive impact,
not only on members, but on listeners as well.
To guide and support where I can.

⭐️  What do you enjoy about it?
There are sooo many things, but to mention at least one thing:
The successes that my mentees or coacees achieve,
it's something that absolutely brightens up my day.

⭐️  What personal growth have you experienced through your progression as a 7 Cups leader?
Oh there's so much to mention!
I'd say that my resilience is way better than it was before I became a leader,
my way of focusing rather on finding the solution instead of the challenge itself is
one of the things that helps me a whole lot in my daily life.

⭐️ Why did you become a leader?

I have always visualized myself as somebody who makes a positive yet unique creative difference to the world by my presence. A leader is one who lives life the way they want the world to live. They initiate and don't wait for others to take action, they chose faith over fears, they find possibilities because they see differently, they take people together with love, generosity and authenticity. A leader is the one who brings the best in people. They hold responsibility and take command no matter how much they fear, they chose to move forward to achieve what they want with the people.

Working with people, making them feel valued and special, adding onto their life to make it anything better than before is what inspired me to become a leader. Standing up for people who cannot do it for themselves, appreciating the diversity of so many interactions and insightful perspectives that I get whenever I am there with the humanity brought me to volunteering for a leadership role.

⭐️️ What do you enjoy about it?

I am a Forum Supporter for the 20 and Over Community. The best part is I am an adult myself, 21 years old, learning to navigate the challenges that we face during our transition period. Interacting with peers and elderly people in the community gives me a sense of belongingness and contentment that we all are together in this. I learn so much every day, areas to improve upon, feel grateful that there are some issues that I am not struggling with and am blessed. There are so many different stories and common concerns bubbling up in the community that help me understand how to give people what they need.

There is an inner sense of fulfillment, and I feel I have a meaning to my life.

⭐️️ What personal growth have you experienced through your progression as a 7 Cups leader?

I got an amazing chance to explore myself, to understand what I value, what I love doing and shape my identity. I started seeing challenges as opportunities to grow in life, it helped build me a lot of resilience, courage and become action oriented. I was a perfectionist, waiting for the right time and do things when I am fully prepared but being a part of the community, made me realize that showing up matters every day.

Better observation, better awareness and better choices/decisions, that is something I started to learn and am still learning. Becoming a leader has taught me that every end is the beginning of something afresh. How to communicate, how to handle emotions and navigate conflicts are things worth learning and very important in life. Time management and understanding my needs to evaluate my personal performance, self-reflections are all life skills must needed, and this role helps me do that. Thank you Cups for being so special to me. 💕

Thankyou H💖for this amazing post, I literally went into the flow state,

I have learned that sometimes being a leader means stepping back and letting others lead while you take a break
