Support Plus Forums

Hi All!

I am making some changes to the forum category headings and descriptions. Some of this was needed as things have been combined into the Support Plus Community. For example, the Welcome and Introductions are for the entire Subcommunity, they are not just connected to ADHD like before.

Let me know your feedback and if you have suggestions to improve them!

@AffyAvo It seems to me the name "Support Plus" implies this is like General Support but when you need extra support. But it's not. Maybe it would be more meaningful to call it something like Obsessions and Autism Support.

The rationale (if any) for putting two quite different groups of disorders in the same place seems mysterious. It would be good if it could be explained.

I suspect many people seeking support in relation to autism are going to look in Disability Support. Maybe the description there could redirect them here?

Similarly, I suspect many people seeking support in relation to OCD, hoarding, BDD and BFRB are going to look in Anxiety Support.

Also, I don't think the term BFRB is either official (yet) or in common use. ICD-10 has: Habit and impulse disorders

@RarelyCharlie Popping in quickly, will have to look into things a little more it sounds.

Currently, I am only changing Forum Headings and Descriptions.

The subcommunity name and the overall description plus the organization of what forums are under Support Plus are not things I am changing (and in some cases don't have the capability to change). Hopefully a Support Plus description will be included soon. Suggestions and feedback on those things can certainly be included in this thread! If there are questions though, I'm not the one who will have many answers.

I updated the description of the BFRB forum yesterday to write out the acronym, but will see if I can find a name & description that fits better and helps those who could use the support find it - whether or not they are aware of official catergorization of the disorders.

I do plan on updating some of the Disability information to help people find the autism and ADHD topics, but it makes it easier if the forum headings here are finalized first. I can reach out to the Anxiety team to see if they are willing to help direct users to the revelant Support Plus topics too.

Thanks for the suggestions!

@RarelyCharlie This is what I have for the BFRB section now https://www.7cups.com/forum/SupportPlus_205/DermotillomaniaTrichotillomaniaBFRBSupport_1100/

If you have suggestions for a better name/desciption let me know. I found it difficult as OCD and Hordering are separate sections, so I think Habit and Impulse disorders is too broad?

@AffyAvo Yes, I see what you mean about being too broad. Being specific is probably better. I'll update my Find a forum index today.

@JessHobson @EmikoKokoro @azuladragon34 @Tazzie @Mel

I hope the forum section names and descriptions are more clear now, I think I'm done with them now unless there's a suggestion to improve on my changes.

Biggest Change is I gave ADHD it's own section - it was the Forum Discussions but it appeared to mostly be ADHD already with a few autism threads that I'm guessing were moved over at some point. It was odd that there was a section for parents of children with ADHD but not a section for those with ADHD themselves! I did create a new Forum Discussions section and tried to clean up the now ADHD section, so some threads are in the Forum Discussions now.

Tazzie was sent a document with the old names/descriptions (may not be perfect as I started the document after I made changes) and the new in case something seems off and you want to try to go back to the old ones.
