Why Self Love Is Not Selfish, It Is Nourishment
From the desk of La Siren 🫖☕️

For a happy life, self-love is healthy and vital.
Self-love is not about the style of clothes you wear, make-up you apply, the money or material items you have before declaring that you are in love with yourself.
The phrase "self-love" refers to a variety of loving behaviors we engage in both physically and emotionally toward oneself for our overall well being.
Confronting your demons and the path to finding self-love are the same. Since no one likes to sit down and talk to oneself, this is the reason why the majority of us lack it. Because it requires giving up specific people and things to which we are "addicted", self-love is difficult to accomplish. The majority of these behaviors, people, and things that we are "addicted" to go against our natural tendency to love ourselves. But because we are dependent on them, we compromise and only love ourselves on the condition that we receive the temporary high from these distracting things.
Self-love comprises four aspects:
1) Self-awareness: Knowing your own mental patterns is being self-aware. Emotional intelligence is based on self-awareness. This implies that while what irritates you might not stop irritating you, you will be aware of the best way to respond (or not respond at all).
2) Self-worth: Our views about ourselves determine our sense of self-worth, and we frequently find it difficult to have faith in ourselves. We focus on the negative and unpleasant things because of the constant negative programming we encounter in society, and we frequently transfer this negativity onto ourselves without even recognizing it. Nothing can decide one's sense of value. Your abilities, talents, and actions of kindness toward others are simply manifestations of your self-worth.
3) Self-esteem: Being content and at ease with who you are, where you are, and what you have has everything to do with self-esteem. Enhance your sense of value if you seek self-esteem. Every day, remind yourself that you are not required to defend your existence. The need to prove your presence often drives your desire to do particular tasks.
4) Self-care: Includes all we do to maintain our health, e.g. taking a bath, eating a balanced meal, staying hydrated, and engaging in activities we enjoy. Self-care can also involve being mindful of the things you consume, e.g. the music you listen to, the movies you watch, and the company you keep. Compared to the other facets of self-love, self-care is simpler to practice.
Today, I'd love the opportunity to share this article with you all on why self love is absolutely healthy: https://reachoutrecovery.com/self-love-is-healthy/
Reflection questions: After reviewing the article shared, I invite you to answer or reflect on the following questions:
1) In what ways do you feel self awareness can help you better navigate through your challenges?
2) Do you believe your self worth is negatively impacted by the people and places in your life? If yes, how will you improve your feeling of self worth with this self awareness?
3) What are proactive and creative ways to improve the current state of your self esteem?
4) What are your most effective ways of self care to renew yourself after triggering scenarios or interactions?

What a beautiful post, Serenity! Thank you so much for this!
1) I think self-awareness is really important to help me understand my emotional responses to things, and then better be able to cope with them in the future.
2) I do think unfortunately our self-worth can be impacted by others, but I think (even though it's really hard to sometimes) we have to try to remember that who we are is not defined by what others think of us.
3) I think one of the best ways is to just do things you enjoy (but not like, unproductive passive things like watching TV) but things that you actively enjoy doing (like playing a sport, drawing etc) work best for me!
4) I think I try to step away from what triggered me (e.g. if it was a chat I had, I take a couple of days as a break from cups) and talk with someone to ground me a little bit 💛
Thanks again for this lovely post!
