(Closed) Got questions about 7 Cups? Community Manager AMA!
Hello there! Got questions about 7 Cups? AMA! I'm a Community Manager here and happy to help alongside @Tazzie our SC Ambassador! Post your questions below and we will do our best to respond!
@Jill7cups
Hey! There probably already is somewhere for this but because of my poor navigational skills ive completly missed it!
i was wondering if therecould be a page with all o fthe individual roles for listeners? there is a post at https://www.7cups.com/forum/ListenersOnlyForums_38/FAQforNewListeners_106/FrequentlyAskedQuestions_11301/ which has a good few of them and it has the mentor, supporter, moderator and other roles.
but with this there are still a lot of roles that are being missed out? For example new(er) teams that have opened up may not have been added to that page such as the safety patrol team to name one. If there's a post of all the roles it would be very beneficial to the listener community as it can show them, im one area, all the availble roles so they can see what will match them the best and it can even maybe help strugglingt teams that may not have enough members that they would like. I've found that forms for certain roles are hidden within a thread of a thread of a thread.
sorry if ive missed a post that does have all the roles, if so then just ignore me xD
hopefully ive posted this in a relevant topic too!
@albSn
Hi, you have brought up a very good point! The thread you are flagging there is an old one from the 'Listener, Learning & Journey' sub-community and I am one of the Forum Mentors there, so I hope nobody minds me answering this.
We are currently doing exactly what you asked!
Re-organisation and re-writing of threads and collating information so that it is easier to find, current, and accurate. So stay tuned! But for now if you need any help finding things let me know or you can always connect to a Quality Mentor using this Form here
Listening .... One Step At A Time
@albSn funny you mention it because this is something I've been working on- a master post of all the types of openings and their requirements. Stay tuned but in the meantime let me know if I can direct you to any type of role you are interested in.
@Jill7cups
Sounds perfect 😍!
@Jill7cups
Hi,
I've tried to join some group discussions -- the ones that show up on the calendar -- but there is no way to enter the ongoing discussion. Either there is nothing to click on, or when I click, I get an error message. I tried theMindfulness 18+ Discussion co-hosted by amiablepeace77 and soulsings 3:30PM to 4:30 PM in the Mindfulness room. I've tried join amiablePeace77 for a discussion on Time Management and Stress at 5pm EST in the Thirty-Five & Over room - (Adults). I've tried the Open 50+ chat for issues concerning midlife. All to no avail. One listener said unless I am a listener, I cannot enter. Any advice?
@MsBrownieBee
Is this the button you clicked on?
Members don't have to be listeners to access group support rooms.
Few things you can try:
1. Verify the email you use for your account.
2. Log out, clear browser cookies and try to sign back in. Then, please try to join an ongoing discussion. Please let us know if you are able to.
@Tazzie You ROCK so hard. After all my troubles and frustration, you nailed it. It was all under the PROFILE. You made my life easier - I can't thank you enuff. I will pass on your little secret to my friends.
Thanks again!
@MsBrownieBee
Thank you! Glad it worked out for you. You are very welcome.
@MsBrownieBee did you get it to work?
@Jill7cups
Yes! Yes! Tazzie had the right solution! I will pass that on to my friends!
@Jill7cups . How do you access the group chats?
@sassyhawk
Hello! You can find several rooms to participate in under the group chats tab next to 1-On-1 on the browser (left sidebar).
You can access these rooms after you have verified the email connected to your account.
Thank you!
@Jill7cups
do u have any plan to design a bengali version of this app? i think it wound very much helpful for my country!
I see two types of mods these days what is a community mod and old generation mod ?
@ItsPreeti
A community centered mod is a moderator who has chosen specific rooms to moderate. A global moderator is one who has modding abilities in all group support rooms. We also have "Community Mods" who are paid intern mods and are helping out in rooms during their shifts to ensure rooms are safe and supportive.

@VulpesWitch
We are thrilled to see that you are interested in joining the listener community!
1. There is incredible amount of support available to help listeners.
2. There are listener rooms you can participate in and learn more from one another.
3. There are tons of leadership roles you can be part of.
4. There are Sub-communities you can collaborate with to host events for raising awareness on important topics and celebrate a diverse range of holidays.
5. The amount of time you will be able to devote as a volunteer while knowing that self-care is essential.
6. Creating a list of areas you would be comfortable listening to/about.
7. Becoming a listener will be a pathway to learning so much more about mental health and stigma.
8. As a listener, you will be able to lead discussions on different topics in chatrooms in an effort to support our members.
9. You will learn about so many cultures and different perspectives if and when you participate in leadership roles.
10. Being a listener can be very rewarding. When listening to members and lending your support, you will be allowing yourself to find more inspiration from every person you meet.
Hi. I became a listener yesterday. I have a question. When I enter the chat rooms there are only chat rooms for listener's, on my member account there are more rooms. Why is this? I have also changed my email.
@Superbravebee You need 5 1-on-1 chats to gain access to the member rooms as a listener. 30 messages sent, with at least 10 from the member/guest = 1 chat. You can view how many chats you have on your profile. Hope that helps!
Where is a good place to ask a question about talking with a listener and what I can expect?
@peachZebra5282 here https://www.7cups.com/forum/GeneralSupport_28/LongTermSupportBoundaries_1613/Whatisalongtermlisteneron7CupsLearnmorehowtofindoneInformationformembers_73290/1/
@TortueDesBois
not about long term listeners, just in general
@peachZebra5282
Listeners can offer emotional support, resources and suggestions in chats. Here's a thread by our admin Laura, please do look into it: "What Can I Expect from a Listener?' Thank you! Please feel free to ask more questions. We'd be happy to answer them.
@Tazzie
1) I got matched with a listener who expressly said she didnt listen to people with the issue I said I wanted support with. But neither of us knew how to request a better matcha for me. What should we do, and why does this happen?
2) Is it normal for a listener to start a conversation then wander away without saying goodbye or that they have to go?
I was literally only talking with someone for just a few minutes and they stopped replying. It makes me wonder if I have done something wrong or offensive or scared them away or something.
@peachZebra5282
Im very sorry that you didnt get the support you needed but please feel free to browse other listeners here. You can use different filters and/or even search by keywords.
Sorry to hear that you didn't receive responses in the chat. An explanation for being unavailable could have helped. Its certainly not your fault. Using the star button in the top right corner of the chat window, you can rate the listener and leave a written review. Your feedback will help the listeners get better at what they do. Thank you!
@Tazzie
Is it normal that someone will start a chat as a listener, then not respond for 30-60 minutes?
It just happened again tonight that I was matched with someone who started to chat, asked a lot of personal questions, then disappeared. It feels really vulnerable and disappointing.
Is this normal?
@peachZebra5282
A listener shouldnt be asking personal questions as a members privacy and anonymity is extremely important. I wouldnt say its common because we have many listeners who do an incredible job! I am very sorry that you had two unpleasant experiences but please dont hesitate to reach out to other listeners through our browse listeners page. As a suggestion, you can also look for Verified listeners who are available to offer support. You can find them on the Browse Listeners page and they will have a purple check before their usernames.
Hope this helps.
I made a listener account and know how to access it but every time I try to chat or join group chat, it either dissapears or say I don
@Kenzie7703
Hello! Thank you for joining the listener side. To access group support rooms on your listener account, you will need to meet the requirement of 5 1-On-1 chats with members. 😊
I hope this information helps. Thank you again!
