Boundaries | Aspects of a relationship #3
Hello :0 welcome back to the informative series. It has most definitely not been a week, it has been more. But hello, welcome back anyway. The last post "The last say | Aspects of a relationship #2" can be seen here.
Today's topic is boundaries.
What really are boundaries?
b o u n d a r i e s | #2
We all have boundaries. Whether we impose them, however, is a different story. In a healthy relationship, it is important to know what your partner's boundaries are and to respect them.
You shouldn't feel nervous or scared setting boundaries with your partner unless it has to do with previous trauma. If it's something specific about that relationship, then that's a shiny red flag for you.
It can be particularly helpful to think about what your own boundaries are, no matter the status of your relationship. If you're not clear about what your partner's boundaries are, ask! Questions like, "Hey is this okay?" or "Are you alright with ___" are the key to clearing up any confusion or misunderstandings.
healthy vs unhealthy boundaries:
Boundaries pass the unhealthy mark when they cross you and go on being harmful to other people. Some examples of healthy and unhealthy boundaries are listed below taken from the Counselling Blog. (the full list can be seen here)
Being your own person—healthy
Feeling incomplete without the other person—unhealthy
② Accepting responsibility for your own happiness—healthy
Relying on others (especially your partner) to make you happy—unhealthy
③ Being able to see and focus on your own, and your partner’s, good points—healthy
Always focusing on your partner’s flaws and worst qualities—unhealthy
It's important to remember, boundaries are not controlling. If your partner is disrespecting your boundaries or going overboard "give me your password", "i want to be able to see what you're doing" that's a big red flag. unless both of you are agreed upon and have reached that conclusion, it shouldn't be done.
a question for you :0: Name one example of an unhealthy & healthy boundary.

Thank you for this post it’s really eye opening I’m sad to say I’m guilty of unhealthy boundaries. How do you work to be healthy I’m hopeless at relationships suffer with anxiety low self esteem and depression
@blueDaisyxoxo heyheyhey :'DD you're welcome <3
it takes a lot of strength to actually admit that you're guilty of unhealthy boundaries, so i'm proud of you, okay? there's various steps you can take to identifying how to fix it. the important thing is, you are able to recognize what the problem is, and why it is there. you're right by saying self-esteem issues can cause you to feel pretty insecure in a relationship, leading to unhealthy boundaries. making your partner feel as if they are being controlled. my pms are open if you want to talk, there's also other listeners who would be willing to help <3 here's the self-help guide link to healthy boundaries self-help guide: https://www.7cups.com/boundaries/
beautiful post milk @milkoreos ⭐
I love the 3 examples of what differentiates healthy and unhealthy boundaries in relationship. Well noted 💜
Thank you for this. It made me realize I checked almost all of the boxes on Unhealthy boundaries. Which is really sad. Its like I know for a fact that I’m guilty of doing those unhealthy behaviors and I feel like I’m trapped in it and its hard to change it because I don’t even know where and how to begin. Its like a slap in the face and a wake up call at the same time.
@BwahahaLove hey :0 you're welcome <3

This is wonderful information, and a great way to stay in check of your own boundaries, thanks for this:)
Recently after 15 years of trying to understand my sister and her negative behaviors toward me I had no choice but to step away.. no more fighting the inevitable. I tried for too long to be or do what I thought would make her happy only to hurt and break my self down in the process. I decided on my own, not ever telling her that I was done trying to please her and started to look at me and what I do and what I contribute to the people around me. I set a boundary for myself to step away from negativity, and realized that it was never about me! It's a problem she must face within her self, and would use hate and manipulation to make me the "scapegoat "
I live my life everyday with the best of intentions, helping if I feel comfortable with it and doing my best to find the positives amongst all the negatives. I know not everyday will be great, but as long as I live with intention and purpose I'm okay with the bad days knowing there will be more good to come
@AMomentInTime1830 heyheyhey :0 this is wonderful! you really went out there and you were like "hey, i need to put a boundary between us." and you actually did it. i am so proud of you u-u <3 that takes so much strength and you achieved it all by yourself. this is a great example of what healthy boundaries can do for us.
thank you for sharing <3
