Addiction to gaming.

As I turned 18, I’m still gaming like there’s no tomorrow. I’m not proud of it, but I’m struggling so hard. I started gaming seven years ago just for fun, but now it feels like hands have grabbed and trapped me. After the lockdown, I began playing 14–15 hours a day. Right now, after finishing my Grade 12 exams, I’ve been on a long vacation. Even when I had classes, I would sleep at 3 a.m., wake up at 5 a.m. to go to college, come back around 10, and start playing again.

And it’s not like my parents are rich or anything — we’re lower middle class, maybe even poor. We rent a 2BHK apartment with two bedrooms, a kitchen, and a toilet. Even though I’ve turned 18, I’m still struggling with my addiction. I love my family so much that I can’t even open up to them because they’re just too kind. I feel like, even though they never pressure me to get a job and still feed me, I can sense that they’re getting older — and I have to do something for them and for myself.

@Purnik

This became a big problem for so many  during the lockdown.

It can be fun.

Secure.

Habit.

Familiar.

But when it prevents you eating, sleeping, socialising, exercising, this is where the problem comes in.

It's about balance.

I know it's not easy, but I would try coming off line for an hour or two to begin with, building up and building up, until you can finally set appropriate times for you 💜💕

Sorry to hear your dealing with that. Yes gaming can be a lot of fun but can become addictive. You probably agree that too much a good thing can sometimes have a bad result, like if you eat too many of your favorite candy bars you may end up with a stomach ache or worse.

That fact that you recognize what's happening is a great first step. And it's good you're thinking about your parents. Perhaps you can try to taper down your gaming and even set a timer for yourself. Just an idea.
