hello, i have been addicted to food for the past 3 years. i might have BED or bulimia i’m not sure. all i know is that i cannot physically get through the stress without binging or else i have severe withdrawal symptoms. i feel like i am going to melt or pass out or die. i feel like crap all the time and i know i cannot live this way but i don’t know what else to do and i can’t break out of the cycle. i’m severe depressed and also lonely and this is my coping mechanism that works, but it’s destroying me…

@Erin6119 I found myself so many times opening at late hours a bag of chips just for a little salty feeling, finding myself at the end with an empty bag and a very bad feeling in the body, but the worse part was feeling bad in my soul. So I think I can relate to that feeling.

In my case, It took a long time to understand that I find comfort in eating. So I started to do it consciously, defining that this is an emotional binging, and allowing it for emotional comfort. Somehow, understanding it, and accepting it, helped me to be more conscious of my feeling, and in less urgent cases, break the cycle. I found out that bad cycles are an important tool for the times I can't deal with the current feeling, and if I'm there, I made peace with it. Trying to cope with it, with small wins.

Don't beat yourself, you're just adding pain to a scarred soul. If you feel bad, it's OK to feel bad. If you are stressed, then it is what's it is. Don't feel bad for the lost battles. Later on, you will probably be able to recognize the pattern before it starts. But this takes time, and the comfort of something comforting by your side.
