ADHD Med Addiction
Hey guys!
A few years ago I struggled with abusing my ADHD medication. I managed to stop cold turkey but within the last month, I decided to try the meds again. But just as I thought deep down, I am abusing them again and they make me feel so bad, especially with the comedown from a high dose. I feel like quitting cold turkey is the best way for me and I know that my health will decline if I don’t stop. But I think deep down, I don’t want to stop taking them because they make me outgoing and energetic which I love. But when it wears off I feel like crap. I want to just stop taking them and start taking my Lexapro again (antidepressant). This helped me tremendously and I felt like I was back to myself. But the ADHD meds just take it one step further.
When I’m on these ADHD meds, I can’t sleep well because I take too much, I sleep all day to catch up on my sleep, I don’t exercise like I used to because the meds will make me do other stuff (plus I don’t want to risk raising my heart rate when I’m on the meds). UGH. I’m just stuck. I’ve been thinking about telling my fiancé because he helped me through this years ago, but I’m just so scared that he will leave me. Should I tell him? How should I tell him? Any advice?
@sociableHickory3898 Hey there, I appreciate you sharing your struggles with us. It takes a lot of courage to open up about personal challenges. When it comes to telling your fiancé about your situation, it's essential to do what feels right for you. If you're not ready or if it feels overwhelming, it's okay not to.
In terms of your medication issues, it's crucial to consult with your healthcare professional. They can provide professional guidance, help you develop a plan for discontinuing the ADHD medication safely, and explore alternative options that align with your health.
Take care, and I'm here if you need further support or someone to talk to.
I totally understand where your coming from.
