Alcohol destroyed my life
Hi, I have a problem with alcohol because I feel the urge to drink no matter what my financial situation is. It's made me really unhappy, and I’ve hurt people I care deeply about. After a year of effort and working on myself, they managed to forgive me. I was truly convinced I was done with it for good… but I ended up making the same mistake again. I’m really disgusted with myself. I’m just so tired of it all.

I think many people who have had a past with alcohol have made slip ups.... started or tried drinking again. The difference i see in your post is you feel disgusted about it. You are honest with yourself. It shows maturity and you truly get that you need to stay sober. It is a real problem.
I have someone close to me who even after a decade makes excuses and deflects if he has taken a drink after being sober for a long time. Use to make me angry but now i feel sad for him he is not honest with himself. You slipped, pick yourself up and stay away from alcohol I believe you can do it.
I'm really glad that you understand me. You know, I can't judge your loved one, but I'm sure that deep down he knows everything alcohol has already made him lose or caused. But he's so determined to convince himself that alcohol isn't the problem. As long as he doesn't admit it, it will be really difficult for him, and he will always need you to help remind him that alcohol is the real enemy he has to fight.
It’s great that you were able to be sober for some time and make amends with your loved ones, it’s not easy!
I’ve been in recovery for about a year and Im learning that alcohol (or coping mechanism of choice) is the symptom.
A 12 step program is the only thing that has helped me. I was able to get to the root of my problems and work on what I was trying to medicate.
But like was said, relapsing is common. I remind myself that progress, not perfection is important. And you’ve made great progress!
