Escapism

I am a student who dreams big but always almost backs out or never manages to put in the effort I want to...I get drawn to this endless hole and the disappointment I get because of not achieving my dreams still doesn't make me do the action...I make elaborate plans to make things different but always come stumbling back to the same spot...the escapism could be in form of movies, videos , books or daydreaming just anything except what I want to do and that is studying....so much so that it has started to affect my studies badly

This escapism has been with me ever since I can remember...in high school I only studied because of my tutors or just in class, once I was home I would go on and on watch stuff on my tab sometimes even sacrificing a few hours of sleep . As time passed this has only grew more and more. This year I barely studied except for the sake of my exams ..and even then I was not focused and spent a significant time on my phone

I really want to end this.

@conscientiousZebra1178

It's human to procrastinate.

We always want to escape the reality of what we are doing .

Be that because of stress, or boredom or unrealistic expectations.

What I would do, is make a daily plan of what you want to get done that day, out the phone out if each, break it into small and manageable tasks to build up your confidence, and when you see an Improvement you'll start to stuck to it more and more, it's about consistency 💕💜

Same.. It started to get really bad last year only. And I am still struggling but with more things to handle. Whenever I try to improve myself, I can't because the main reason is doing the initial work. I can't even sleep early so how can I wake up early and do the damn things. Sleeping early isn't just because of I can't sleep, it's also because of phone addiction. I did get good marks last year but was on the verge of losing 1 year. This year, more than half of it were spent like this only.

Hi there!

Id like to say that there is nothing wrong with being ambitious. Ambitions are what can guide us to take the necessary actions. The heart of the issue is that we often equate big dreams to big steps.

Sometimes it's easy to forget that we start off with struggling to crawl because we run around so easily now.

Id just like to say, start with the crawling. It could be teeny tiny. Maybe you studied a hard topic and mastered it, that would beat learning a 100 new ones. Which is what perfectionism wants us to do unfortunately.

Think of it as laying a foundation, or fixing a jigsaw. Take tiny steps that will make you feel more confident. Once you start feeling productive, the procrastination will gradually ebb away.

I hope this helps!

Exact same problem ***. It's laziness. It's destroying me. It disappears when the deadline is close because the panic is real that time. I'd advise myself and you to set your own deadline and ditch the phone. Enough wasting time, it's time to replace it with real action, and that brings confidence. Keep a track or checklist for the day- and fix your mind that you want to achieve it no matter what. You may face distractions but remind yourself that you want to check off your tasks no matter what. And at the end of the day even if you managed to do like 50% of the list, it's still improvement. Use rationale, if you know what's right but still choose wrong then that's just stupid. Overcome the desires that try to pull u into escapism. You can!

I can completely relate to what you're saying. I'm struggling with the same. It's like I don't care about anything and just going with the flow except I don't even have the slightest clue about where the currents are leading me. I really want to break this cycle.

This really struck home for me as one of the things I struggle with most.

My only remaining hobby now days is cooking, and even that sometimes feels less like a fun hobby and more so just another distraction.

I don't know what to do myself. I'm lost myself.

But at the very least, even though you and I hear this constantly, you're not alone. I, you and many others are dealing with the same thing. I hope that gives you just enough determination to push through and live through today.
