Internet addiction and online friends balance
I recognize I have a huge addiction on being on social media
I am cutting down on stuff like YouTube and *** but one has been killing me deeply—an online friend I have known for 5years.
It kills me that a person I care so much about is only available through a screen and divided because of timezone. I don’t have many people I feel so comfortable with, like I don’t have to pretend I’m someone I’m not just to fit in.
I know I will have to get a job one day and that scares me. Not only I have no other way to get happiness without having to put so much effort, I will have time limited with him which scares me. I don’t want to abandon him, especially given he has no friends either and his life is ***. I want to help him so badly
I’m scared. I feel like this friendship has been doomed from the start

I understand why the friendship means so much.
And why it's so important.
But you cannot help or fix anyone, that's not your responsibility.
You have to also prioritise your own feelings and what you need in life.
While online interactions fill a void, ultimately they leave us wanting something we can't have 💖

Yeah but the problem is this is all I want at the end of the day. I’m sick and tired of life and everything throwing at me. He’s been a reason for me to try and make things better.
And now I will potentially lose contact or closeness just because I’ll have to reintegrate back in the world that constantly makes me feel rejected and out of place.
It feels so cruel, I feel like I have used someone for my own fun and benefit. I hate myself for making promises I can’t keep.
@brightAvocado4697 It makes sense that this friendship feels so important. When someone makes you feel safe and understood, the connection can be really strong, even online. But it’s also natural to feel scared when your world becomes centered around one person or one space. That doesn’t mean the friendship is doomed; it just means you’re growing and noticing what you need.
You can care about him without sacrificing your own life or future. Getting a job and building offline routines doesn’t mean abandoning him. Friendships can adapt. What matters is finding balance so your happiness isn’t tied to just one person or one platform. You deserve a full life, and you can still keep people you care about in it.
