Porn addiction

Hi, I’ve stumbled across 7 cups to help with my emotional wellbeing. My boyfriend is addicted to porn and I found out somethings a month ago on his phone to which I confronted him about. I didn’t know it was as bad as what it was. I’ve explained to him that it hurts and makes me feel upset. He’s finally admitted after many attempts to hear him say it, that he’s addicted to porn, he’s tried to stop and just can’t and that he wanted to tell me many times but was terrified incase I left him because of it. I feel like it’s a conversation I keep having to bring up because it’s really affecting me mentally and I don’t know how to help deal with my own feelings and help him as I could never understand how both addiction and watching porn feels. I don’t watch porn due to previous relationship trauma. He tells me he’s reduced but I know that he did for a week and has fallen back into it. He deleted *** which was a big part of it, but has now re-downloaded it. He has ADHD so social media feeds his constantly active brain. I fear he will fall back into hiding it from me like before. I just want to help him but don’t know how or where to start as I know he also needs to help himself

Hi Kiwi.

I'm very sorry that your bf. suffers from this addiction. I cannot help you, but maybe someone here at 7Cups has written something about it. If you go to "community" and write "addiction to porn" you will find other persons who struggle with this. Maybe some have got answers that could help. Addiction could also be helped by a therapist. There may also be a listener here who could help a little bit, you could seach for a listener who could talk about "addiction to porn". Maybe you don't like it but I would like to bless you both in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit. From Helga.

Hey,

My husband is a recovering addict from drugs and alcohol, he's been an addict his entire life but hid it very well from me, I thought I had this version of are relationship and of him but I was wrong, point is,

We hit an extremely low patch, 10 months together was amazing so I thought but he would go home after us having dates and drink,

He got back into drugs bad and drinking back in November and cheated on me,

I did nothing but stand by his side no matter what, it took us a long x but he's now almost 3months sober and we're better than ever, I struggle w. The flashbacks and traumas and triggers still but im sorting thought it,

I got him the help he needed, I got him into AA and make sure hes properly medicated, If you love him and want a life and future w. Him, find him the resources and make sure he attends them, I am pretty sure they have meetings for people addicted to porn, similar to AA, I'd do some research about what's in your area and go from there.

You got this, stay strong, I know it's hard and I know how impactful it can be on your self confidence, finding out he's addicted to porn, but I can promise you things can become better and easier, you just need to know where to start.

Hey we do have a small group forming to help each other with Porn addiction. There is help, and we support each other. You should steer him this way, and to reading some books. Stopping with willpower alone only leads to frustration and heartbreak. There are more strategies. You can both have a healthier relationship. I think the book that helped me was called quitting porn and masterbation for good. Its short like a 3 ish hour listen on audible. Join our thread of people holding each other accountable. But its major lifestyle changes, and he has to want to stop. Hope to hear from u soon.

I attend a sexaholics anonymous group in my city. It follows AA principles. You can find meetings on the website, but it should be something he wants to do.
