porn Addiction & masturbation

I have been addicted for 7 years now. I am a teenager and yes, my addiction started in childhood due to a major trauma. Anyway, I am very scared because I heard a doctor talking on the internet about how an addict cannot recover alone!

I want a miracle to recover in one day. Does such a thing exist? I hope you can tell me honestly, can I overcome my addiction on my own? Or should I consult a specialist? I'm afraid of my family's reaction and also the reaction of the community I live in; it will be very harsh.

It depends on how severe the addiction is and who you are as a person and what you need. Sometimes yes you can do it alone, but sometimes you need support whether this be in forms of group support, rehab, family support. If you do plan on facing this alone you shouldn't go from a shame place, but do it out of acceptance and love if you can. Acknowledge the issue at hand, accept it and move in a way that is you want to be better because you want a better life and not out of hate or embarassment.

One of the first things I would do is probable research about it or read a book about it or maybe youtube videos as to how other people have faced that.

I would journal about your trauma, how thats connecting the two and how your trauma is effecting you in different ways other than this addiction.

This addiction is also something that has to do with dopamine which also comes from scrolling on your phone,so I would do things that ground you so things like taking a walk,or meditiating. Slow movement does well with the brain.

I would stay consitent with that, as well as practing things that genuinely make you feel good like painting or listening to music and just do that everyday

I had actually decided to recover on my own, but I wanted to hear from others who were in the same situation as me and had also recovered on their own. I wanted to counter that doctor's words with real proof that it was possible to recover alone. I had been continuing my recovery efforts, but when I listened to that doctor, I don't know, something broke inside me. I felt terrible despair and couldn't overcome the feeling that I was just stalling. I didn't want to admit that I was pursuing futile paths. I felt I had to face the facts, take responsibility, and tell my family, but every time I tried to think about their reaction, I broke down! Besides, we're a conservative family, so this is terrifying to think about and truly exhausting. I need to hear reassuring words from someone who has faced the same problem, words that will restore my faith in the individual recovery process.
