This problem has been an on-going issues in our 5 years relationship. He has this issue of promising that he will be home by certain time but ended upturning up few hrs late. I cant get him to understand his behavior has caused great stress to me as I get worried a lot what could or might happened. I couldnt get him to understand and we will always end up getting into fights. He will apologise and promise to watch his time next time and it just did happen. How do I make him see that he is hurting me emotionally.

Is he coming home stumbling or is he more or less walking in under his own control? I ask this because I wonder if the problem is alcohol or the problem is him enjoying the time with his friends while drinking. If he's enjoying his time with his friends and not coming home drunk or engaging in dangerous behavior whilst under the influence, you might want to consider the problem in a different light.

Not to say you don't have a problem, but there might be room to speak at him about this without the recriminations and hurt feelings that tend to come when talking about alcohol abuse.
