I feel like I have an unusual online addiction
Hi everyone! I would like to talk to someone about a very specific online addiction that I have. Sometimes I feel like I'm alone in this but my therapist keeps telling me that I'm not.
Anyways, my main addiction is having aexually explicit conversations with women online (I'm a guy) but my more unusual addiction is catfishing. Sometimes I pretend to be a woman and talk to other girls or guys. I feel like it's really weird but I needed to get this off my chest and maybe, just maybe, someone can relate.

Thanks for your honesty 💚
When we are lonely, or feel like something is missing in our life, it can be very tempting to have sexual conversations with people.
We feel a sense of desire.
Of connection.
Of pleasure.
Of being wanted.
Everyone needs this.
But ultimately it's not real , it's temporary, it's a fixation.
It's instant gratification that we end up always chasing.
Real connection and intimacy comes through honesty, and sharing real conversations and being ourselves.
We need to work on ourselves and feel confident to put our real persona out there 💚🤗

Honestly i think this is kind of like porn addiction.
I mean i dont really know much about porn addicion, but its like arousal from online thing.
Also depends how often and long you do it i guess.
The catfishing addiction is really quite unique i think, but its also like arousal on the internet so yeah. Also it must lead to some crazy situations too right? Also forgive me for being insensitive but must be funny sometimes lol.
I can relate to those conversations, that was when i knew i had a problem. Not the catfishing part. But i eventually put a name to how it felt. It was like emotional mastur bation. An itch that cant be scratched. It wreaks havoc with your mind and emotions. But its not healthy. And thats what lead me here. But if u are serious about stopping, you can. I read books, i talked to people, i set up boundries, deleted anything remotely triggering. And replaced that idle time with more productive things. I went 5 months without porn and those convos. Had a small relapse and im almost 2 months clean again. Let me know if i can help.

You're not alone, and I know this for a very particular reason. I have a listener account on 7cups, and I recently logged into it for the first time in years. The first person I paired with immediately launched into an explicit conversation, which I kept trying to redirect, but they were persistent. I switched back to my member account, and I don't know if I'll ever use the listener account again. That experience reminded me why I stopped listening on this platform in the first place.
There are places where it's appropriate to engage that way with people, this just isn't one of them. There's no shame in sexual desire, just make sure you direct it to the right people and places.
You should fix it up otherwise it will destroy you istg
