Introduction

ADHD stands for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. ADHD effects 1 in 4 people. People with ADHD have a hard time keeping attention and hyper attentiveness. It is more commonly found in boys than in girls. People with ADHD struggle with time management, organization, goals, and careers amongst other things. Other mental illnesses also coincide with adhd including bipolar depression and anxiety.

Causes

The causes of adhd is of pregnancies that involve drinking and drugs, high risk pregnancy, if an older sibling has adhd it's 30% more chance that a younger sibling will have it. It's 50% probability if parent has adhd . So in short pregnancy issues and family connections. Tv and sugar intake does not contract adhd.

Symptoms

There are three categories of symptoms of ADHD. [Please note, however, that having these symptoms does not equate having ADHD. 7Cups is unable to give you the tools to self-diagnose, though we can give you information on ADHD.]

Inattentive Type (Add)

You must have 6/9 of these symptoms

Not paying attention to detail

Making careless mistakes

Failing to pay attention and keep on task

Not listening

Being unable to follow or understand instructions

Avoiding tasks that involve effort

Being distracted

Being forgetful

Losing things that are needed to complete tasks


Hyperactive-Impulsive Type

(Adhd) must have 6/9 of these symptoms

Fidgeting

Squirming

Getting up often when seated

Running or climbing at inappropriate times

Having trouble playing quietly

Talking too much

Talking out of turn or blurting out

Interrupting

Often on the go

Combined type where you have a mix of both lists.

Treatment

You can help the person who has adhd create a schedule and organize everyday items. Medications include Ritalin and Adderall amongst other stimulant and nonstimulants. Also therapy helps.
