Undiagnosed, unsupported and wondering
Hi everyone!!! I’m new here,
Over the past few years, I’ve started noticing things about myself that I didn’t really understand before.
I’ve been wondering if I might have ADHD, but I’m not diagnosed, and I don’t have access to a therapist right now. I also live with parents who aren’t very supportive when it comes to mental health or this kind of topic, so it’s been hard to talk about or even explore it properly.
I feel really disorganized, and even when I try to follow a plan, I rarely finish it. I procrastinate a lot, I get lost in my thoughts, and I struggle to stay focused on my college work. Socially, I feel overwhelmed even normal interactions feel exhausting and stressful. I’m constantly overthinking everything I say or do.
But even though I relate to so many ADHD experiences, part of me is scared I’m just making it all up. And if it’s not ADHD… then what’s wrong with me?
Has anyone else felt like this?
@Leyleyckhx
hello, As someone that was diagnosed I felt the same EXACT way. I mean honestly couldn’t describe it another way. My mom is the same way about my adhd I had been on meds for about two-three years but she would always ask for me to stop. She would say it wasn’t helping me or that I didn’t even have adhd? Which was very stressing bc how would she know?
I stopped taking at the beginning of this year bc these thoughts that maybe I don’t need them and I’m just feeding into the delusion or that I don’t deserve to be treated.
I still struggle a lot but the meds were kind of not helping I mean they were helping with getting stuff done but the way they make you feel I recommend not taking them.
To be honest I’m not sure of what you would want with being diagnosed? To have something to finally say this is why I am like this? It’s bc I have adhd that I am like this? Cuz it was the same for me and yeah it does feel better to justify why I am the way I am but it doesn’t change anything more.
what I am saying is that if you really feel that you do. You might and there a lot of things to help with adhd that help me atleast and I am still figuring it out. If you want some help I’m here ❤️
I hope you have a great day 🫶
Heyy, thank you so much for your message. I really appreciate you taking the time to share your story.
What you said about wondering why we even want to be diagnosed really hit me. You’re right that a diagnosis doesn’t change everything.
But for me I think it would help me stop doubting myself so much. It’s like I’m always stuck in between two versions of myself, and knowing what’s really going on, whatever the diagnosis is, would help me understand myself better and adapt.
So I guess it’s not really about having an excuse (even though maybe deep down, I do want some relief from constantly blaming myself). It’s more about clarity, and peace of mind. Just finally making sense of it all.
Thank you for making space for my story. It really means a lot to be heard with kindness 🌸
I am sorry you are struggling, I have ADHD as well and find that deep breathing can help you to focus
Hi there👋🏾. I have undiagnosed ADHD too and when I tell u the struggle is real u better believe me😭. I live w my parents too and dotn have access to a therapist or meds cuz they don’t even believe adhd is a real thing (they didn’t know what it was till I told them that I probably have it). I’m moving out next year so i hope I can get the help I need😭.
I just wish parents were more understanding of mental heath issues. And dw, after hearing ur symptoms Im very sure u have adhd too.
Thanks!! it really helps to know I’m not alone with parents who don’t understand. And I’m also trying to find answers and support.
I’m curious, how did you come to feel sure about adhd without a formal diagnosis? I’m still working through my own fears about jumping to conclusions
@Leyleyckhx I just asked ChatGPT to give me questions that would show if I have adhd or not an it gave me very real therapist style questions and I answered yes on literally all of them and I asked if for more questions and also I shared some of my experiences and then it said that there’s a high chance I have ADHD. Use ChatGPT but don’t reply on its answer completely. Rn I’m basically unofficially diagnosed and the only one that can undiagnose me is a real psychiatrist cuz I’m not about to listen to my parent’s opinion about it when they didn’t even know what adhd was or that it even existed before I told them. Don’t let ur parents discourage u. Most parents are ignorant about topics like these and probably won’t think it’s even real cuz it probably sounds like an excuse to be lazy or to not do well but it’s not. It’s a real disorder and needs to be acknowledged. Just hand on till u move out or smth. Cheering for u🎉
Just wanted to say that you’re not alone you know I don’t know you I do understand you brave
