When do you feel like your ADHD/ADD impacts you the most?

Yay!!! Love this post! My adhd affects me all the time! Like legit always. Even if I'm watching a show I'm into i miss like 1/3 of it. If i'm reading i have to re read each page at least 5 times. My family calls me dory and they say just keep swimming. Like focusing drains me. I can do it but it takes all my energy and it's hard. Sometimes i have a hard time following conversations because my mind wanders and i always hope people don't notice. It probably affects me the most in math subjects in class and at home doing hw. It causes me alot of anxiety because i know i frustrate people when i don't pay attention. My grandma used to make me mad saying her joke "Sam's so broke she can't even afford to pay attention" but now i just tell her "Your jokes so old, almost older than you" so we are even :P

@Kate

I think ADD/ADHD affects me the most when I am not interested in what I am trying to focus on. Another part of what impats me the most is trying to listen to a conversation, even if it is my thoughts while there is another conversation going so I can't concentrate on either one because my brain wants to focus on everything going on around me at once and it can't process that much. So I have to try to drown out a conversation or the thoughts racing through my head in order to be able to concetrate on what I need to be doing.

@GrahZeymahzin

My thoughts exactly.

It seems like I miss really important information when theyre clearly talking at me but theres too much noise in my own head. Its much worse when Im tired.

@GrahZeymahzin those were very relatable insights. I struggle.with taking turns on the phone, and sensing natural lapses.

My meds wear off at 6 and I'm hungry and cranky too. Clenched jaw effects me.too.

@creativeVase4985

Taking turns or being patient can definitely be a struggle!!! And it can be really hard to sense a lot of stuff, from sensing social cues from others to sensing stuff within ourselves!!!

I have noticed the same thing for my meds, actually. I do get hungry and really tired when they wear off so usually I will try to eat a good dinner when I get hungry and then try to get to sleep sooner rather than staying up all night. That's just what I do, so it may not work for everyone, but there are sometimes things you can do to get through the side effects or symptoms of whatever you may be facing, but everyone has different things that work for them.

i feel like it impacts me the most when i'm in school, or hanging out with friends.

with school there's always the struggle of being able to focus on whats being taught to us, while with friends sometimes i blurt things that i shouldnt, or act impulsive and make them think i'm being weird.

It sounds like the different environments are affecting you in very different ways. What helps you when you are in those settings with trying to focus on schoolwork or being with your friends?

@GrahZeymahzin usually eliminating distractions helps a lot in school, but i also have to keep my hands busy so i usually try to bring a small object i can figit with while i'm in class

i've also been working really hard at trying to not blurt things out and think before i speak so i dont make a fool out of myself, and by doing that i've been improving on how much i say stuff i realize i shouldnt have said

Meds are a big way that some of us are able to stay focused. Have you been able to do anything that helps you to stay focused?

I guess for me it will be in school- sometimes i look at the board and we're doing one thing, and then i zone out and next moment i realize we've covered a whole topic and i have nearly no idea what the teacher said. Also sometimes i tend to go on 'autopilot' and just do anything at all while thinking of something else. Also, conversations. And reading.
