Honestly, I'm here to unload something that happens to me often, and despite being introspective, I can't find a solution. If it helps, I have ADHD and I'm 21 years old.

I've had a lot of social shocks and issues in my life lately because I got tired of fitting in (which left me feeling drained, socializing = crying at home)

I was always sincere and communicative with my emotions, but when I explained to my friend that I was a little sad because there were financial problems in my family, Also, my future and career (it makes me very anxious), and I also felt neglected by her. She reacted badly and said I was too sensitive.

Not in accordance with this, I tried to get another friend to be the mediator, but it seemed a little unfair when she started attacking me without any basis, saying that I am playing the victim because I have ADHD. When I opened up to that from the beginning to explain some of my behaviors or my ways of socializing that are different...

P/S: Sorry for my poor English

@JLunaHispana

You weren't being too sensitive JL.

Even people who don't have ADHD can feel anxious about finances, their job, and the future.

Anyone can feel neglected by their friend. I mean even if the person wasn't neglecting you, you can feel neglected.

Obviously based on the way they reacted, they must not be a great friend at the moment. I'm sorry you are experiencing this.

@JLunaHispana I would like to add that you didn't do anything wrong by communicating your feelings. Your friends just aren't great at listening and communicating back.

@JLunaHispana

Your feelings were and ate completely valid, your friend was wrong to say, you use ADHD to act like a victim, she clearly doesn't understand how hard it is, to deal with. Never let anyone tell you how you feel. You deserve to be heard! 💜🥰

@JLunaHispana

Your feelings are completely valid. Do not feel ashamed for feeling unheard by your friend, communicating feelings is healthy and an important way to strengthen relationships. It sounds like her response was not what you needed in that moment.

Navigating life with ADHD can be extremely challenging and confusing. Dealing with such overwhelming emotions can sometimes feel like the weight of the world. You deserve to have your feelings heard and friends that support you! You are not alone!

You aren’t too sensitive, you are picking up on the fact that people who call themselves friends are not emotionally safe to be around. If someone wants to understand you they will be curious, if someone doesn’t want to hear you they will ignore you. If they aren’t safe they will shame you. Anyone who loves you will protect your vulnerabilities not exploit them.

I’m sorry they did this too you, you deserve better.

I can completely relate to what you wrote… and I’ve always felt like the ‘optional friend,’ never really prioritized. It’s such a lonely and heavy feeling, especially when you’re already struggling with family issues and trying to survive in college. Reading your words made me feel less alone, like someone actually understands what this feels like...Especially since everyone has friends from high school or college, there are already formed groups... Thank you for sharing this 💙
