So my child has been recently diagnosed with ADHD she is 11 years old. She won’t go to school which is a real challenge. She is on medication in the morning and after dinner to chill at night so she isn’t so stimulated with her phone and she can go to bed. When morning comes to go to school she is she isn’t going and says I don’t know why I don’t go . She had made other excuses about being sick, headache, her leg hurts. Need some advice please we have tried everything and worked with her teacher and social worker/ counsellor to get her to school but unsuccessful.

Hello, thank you for sharing with us. Seems like she is actively trying to avoid school. Is there a possibility something happened at school that makes her not want to go? Seems like a stressful time for you too trying to navigating through it all. Sending some extra strength your way.

Seems like its been a while since you made this post, so would love to hear an update if you want to share.

I know I had ADHD As a child but was never diagnosed, my best guy friend who ended up my boyfriend for 3 years was diagnosed as a kid and was on aderal , we always hit it off and I always felt he understood me. Now... about the school avoidance thing..I hate school... but nothing bad ever happened to make me hate it, I remember my mom telling us that she's ok with us staying up as long as we're responsible enough to wake up on time for school, I can't say I ever enjoyed going to school but I accepted it as a fact of life that I had to just muscle my way through, I also didn't really have much of any friends and wasn't really that interested in making any. You just gotta tell your kid that school is part of growing up and nobody likes going to school. If there really is something going on in school then she needs to tell you... if she stays home because she's "sick" then she needs to stay in bed and rest, no phone, no computers, no iPad, just rest. Because that's that sick people do to get better, they rest... once she realizes she won't be able to play with her smart devices at home because of being "sick" you'll see she'll go to school

I find ADHD can make it challenging and stressful to communicate/work with others. That is a challenging age already and ADHD could increase the stress of being among peers.

😔

Just an idea, based on my personal experience.
