Habit trackers

Have you ever used a habit tracker? If so, how did it go? Is there one that you can recommend?

Here's my experience:

I tried tracking habits first on a set of habit tracker sticky notes, but that required me to get the sticky notes and a pen out consistently every day. Once I forgot to use it or lost interest my habit of habit tracking would be gone. The habit I used this method for was flossing, and I don't enjoy flossing.

Next, I tried habit tracking in a bullet journal. That was too much work. I gave up on habit tracking for a few years.

Then, I read Atomic Habits, which recommends habit tracking. Ugh, I thought. But I tried the Atoms app, and it allowed me 21 days to track multiple habits. It was satisfying to tap the habit in the app to mark it complete, and then to see my progress. The habits I tracked were: "Wash 5 dishes every morning to become a tidy person," and "Wipe one surface every day to become a tidy person." I deleted the app when the 21 day trial was over and I was only allowed to track one habit.

Next, I found an attractive habit tracking app called Disciplined. I like it so far. I don't have to pay to track multiple habits, and it's satisfying and easy to mark each habit as complete.

How about you?

I've personally never used any 🥰

What works for me is breaking down into small manageable tasks each day that builds up my confidence and not putting any pressure on myself or the situation 💜💕

That's great! For me, if a task is out of sight it's out of mind, and having a good, easy-to-use habit tracker seems to be helping me stay focused and motivated to achieve my goals. Seeing that I have a streak going is very helpful, and if I miss a day I can try to beat my last streak. I'm starting with mostly easy habits and then once I master them I will add more, or make the established habits a little more challenging. Like, I'm still working on washing 5 dishes every morning. I might eventually increase the number of dishes I wash to 6. I also wash the rest of my dishes in the afternoon, but I don't feel a need to track that.

I use the Finch app for habit tracking daily and it's very helpful to me.

Specifically there's a way that you can mark why you weren't able to complete a task and that's very helpful for me to not feel negatively about myself or my day when I don't get all my goals done.

I also home make my own habit trackers in a google spreadsheet for my household chores to keep track of those and I mark those off with a pen at the end of my day every day and have found that to be a very helpful tool for me.

I’ve tried habit tracking as well with mixed success. I used Finch for a while, but fell out of the habit. It’s a self-care app with habit tracking, and you grow a little birb (yes, birb) and can send it on little adventures, decorate it, and such. It gamifies habit tracking and makes it pretty easy to use regularly. Not entirely sure why I stopped using it now that I think about it… There are a lot of additional features, too, but they’re behind a subscription, which I’m not wild about.

I tried Finch briefly too. I quit because it had too many features. I need something streamlined. So far, my current habit tracker app is working. I will see how it goes as I keep using it.

Personally, I like the HabitBull tracker. Simple, and nothing to distract me from "getting it done". However, I have the best success when I'm in competition with someone.
